A Fresh Start
September 10, 2016

Started from the bottom, now we’re here.

Your girl is now a Technology Risk Consultant at one of the largest accounting firms in the country.

I never would have thought that I would end up at a company like this.  I have those who believed in me enough to give me a chance over the years to thank. Every experience and opportunity has been a building block that helped me get to where I am today. I’m looking forward to what’s in store!

The new hires spent the first week going through orientation about the company. There were a lot of modules and information to take in at once but that’s pretty customary in new companies. I’m excited to dive into the security aspect of my job! We had a great mentor during the orientation so we settled in pretty well. On Friday, the company took us out for lunch at a Tex-Mex restaurant.

What to Expect

I met my team on Friday and I’m looking forward to working with them. It seems like I’m going to be pushed towards the offensive security and reconnaissance part of the spectrum rather than IT audit/compliance. This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time~

The Community

The office is located in the city and I can walk two blocks down to have lunch at Whole Foods or across the street for the mall. At my old work, I had to drive out for at least 10 minutes for food. The view from the office is amazing because I can see the greenery everywhere. I suppose the only downside is the commute. It takes me 45–60 minutes to drive each way so far. However, everything else about the awesome company makes up for this.

I’m off to Illinois this week for some training. ✨

WHOO HOO! What a wonderful new position! You’re going to ace this job, Nancy! You’ll be showing them that you’re the boss 😀 You’re very good at what you do, so I know you’ll do well with this new opportunity!

It seems like every job comes with information overload X_X I’ve started my fourth week at my new place, and I’ve been totally swamped with all the new things that were thrown at me LOL. I have to say there are some things I’ve not got the hang of, but hopefully those things will come to me soon, especially by next week because the other clerk is on leave then. Ahhhh!

You enjoy your training time in Illinois! Don’t forget to get some Chicago pizza for me!!! Have a great time!

Congrats on the position! Such an awesome sounding title 😀 I’m glad you get to do the type of work that you’ve been wanting to do!

Also, that’s nice about the office’s location! Being able to get food close by is a definite plus. I miss that about my work place because we moved locations, and now it’s inconvenient for getting lunch. Fortunately, we have food trucks that stop by, but it’s still nice to leave the office once in a while!

I hope the training is going well in Illinois!

Aw yeah! Great job! I’m rooting for you. I hope you continue to do great things. It’s so rare to find happiness/enjoy our jobs so I’m very glad to hear that you found that.

The view is awesome! And if you get to have good food nearby too, then that’s double the points but…..1 hour drive each way? How do you manage that?!? It must be exhausting! =(

I hope you have a great time in Illinois! Have you ever been?

I always think “consultant” sounds like such a fancy job title! Congratulations on the new job. 🙂

Working close to food sounds amazing. I work on a business park where there are only two places to get food. But we’re getting two new fast food style restaurants across the road, so here’s to being unhealthy!

You have done an awesome job Nancy! And I’m proud of you for your new role. I felt the same when I got my current job. I didn’t think I would get it. 🙂

Sometimes it’s worth commuting a little longer for a job that is worth it in every way. I am sure you will get used to the long commute, and at least it is a close walk to lunch options. Not a bad view, either!

It’s so cool you get to go interstate for training. You know a company is serious about their employees when they are willing to pay for onboarding and training even in their first week!

Yay! Congratulations on your new job! It sounds like a great fit for you! I wish you the best of luck. Hopefully you’re adjusting well to the new work life. I had a hard time, but it got better after a few months once I comfortable with the people around me and finally knew enough to do my job well. But it sounds like you’re starting off much better than I was.

Thanks, Thao! I’m slowly readjusting to the work life again (at least the busy part of it). Glad to hear that you’ve adjusted + doing great now ^__^~
