Braces
July 6, 2013

Happy July & post-Independence day, everyone. For those who celebrated the holiday, I hope you enjoyed it and whatnot :).

Today, I finally got braces… Or at least the top part of the braces. I’m getting the bottom part done in a few weeks. After the mounting process is complete, I will have braces for around 18 months. Eating hasn’t been a friendly experience so far. Hopefully I can quickly adjust to prevent having food stuck between the brackets/wiring because I like eating. Aside from that, I’m fine with the food restrictions such as soda since I haven’t consumed any of that stuff for almost a year now. I will try to adjust with energy drinks but I barely drink them to begin with. If you want a picture of me with braces, that will have to wait for a later time when I bother posting a picture of me on Instagram.

Following the story about how I received an invitation to be a teacher’s assistant for cyber camp the other month, it turns out that I didn’t make it through the final selection. Weeks later (which was last week), I received another invitation to attend cyber camp but as a competitor instead. After sending in my information, I made it through the final selection to attend the camp. But there is a catch: I have to pay ~$750 for transportation, tuition, board, and etc. I don’t have any *pocket change* laying around so I’m probably going to decline the invitation. It would be a great experience and I suppose I can make a compromise with my goal since I technically made it in and didn’t expect any additional fees.

To follow up on that brief list of goals for 2013 I made on New Years, here’s a summary of what’s going on so far. “✔” means completed, “~” means in progress, and “✔~” means completed and still in progress.

✔~  3.5 GPA
~ Transfer Time: I don’t believe the portal is open for applications yet.
~ Leaning Python: I haven’t gotten around completing all of the courses as of now.
✔~ Financially Fit: I still have a good amount of savings in my bank account and I’m spending wisely.
✔~ Eating Healthy: Less junk food, more beneficial food.
✔~ Happiness: In an overall perspective, I can say that I’m happy.
✔~ Awesome Relationship: My boyfriend is awesome.
✔~ Blogging: I still blog.
Domain Control: I plan to keep 3 domains out of the 7 domains I have.
Movies: This goal is still in progress considering how there are more movies to watch this year.
X Games: X Games is taking place in Los Angeles on the first weekend of August. With that said, my boyfriend and I bought tickets to watch the Motocross event!

I was told some years ago that I would have to get braces but I don’t know if I still want to go that route. Anyhow you completed a lot of goals (unlike me XD) but yeah, I’m happy for you.

    I’m glad that you’re happy 🙂

I plan on getting braces soon, for minor gaps. I hope I can get the invisible ones. I hope you are able to adjust more quickly. 🙂

    $750 is alot… I always hate hidden fees. :/

Congrats on the 3.5. I would like to get mine up a bit higher before I graduate this year, I’m currently at a 3.3. I wish I could take a Python course but my school has limited programming classes. >.< I've taken Visual Basic, C# and Java though. 🙂 Good luck on all the rest of your goals!

I hope you adjust to your braces quickly! I actually had braces twice, which was a pain. It takes adjustment at first, but then you just get used to them. Then, when you get them off… it feels weird without them!

Sorry that you didn’t make the final selection to be a teacher’s assistant 🙁 But congrats on making the final selection on attending at least! That’s too bad it’s so expensive though. I guess it makes sense since it covers a bunch of stuff, but the price still seems pretty high.

Yay, you’re doing great on your goals! Keep it up! 😀

    Hey Nancy,
I hope you get used to the braces pretty soon… I had braces abt 6 years back and the initial days were horrible… the braces used to cut my lips and my inner cheeks… it was gross actually… but the end result was great so no complains!

    You’re goals are quite organized… I haven’t made mine yet! 🙁

My 4th of july was fun! Went swimming, and had a BBQ. The “usual” I suppose lol. Oh I need to get braces too, just never had the money to invest into them…18 months? That’s not too bad. Congrats on the 3.5 GPA!!! That’s awesome!! Spending your money wisely is always a big plus! I’m glad everything else like eating and your relationship is going great too! The majority of the things on your to-do list seem to be getting done! Way to go! 

Ah, the lovely thing of braces. I actually got the invisalign, which is way better than the wire but still had many of it’s issues. Like, most people don’t know they put these buttons on your teeth that look kind of funny and make you feel like you have food stuck on your teeth until you get use to it. lol
Good luck with adjusting to your braces, but it will make it all worth it in the end. xD

Ahh, braces. Let me tell you I do not miss them at all. I had them for four years and I felt like I would never get them off. However, they were worth it because my teeth aren’t all jacked up anymore, lol. It was just so annoying to eat popcorn, or gum, or starbursts, or anything else DELICIOUS. Do you have to wear rubber bands? I would flick mine at people, hahaha.

Wow, someone’s been productive! I would say my summer hasn’t been bad, but I need to hunker down and make a set of goals because I feel like I have so much to do and so little time. Summer’s almost over. D:

I’ve always wondered how braces felt, since I’ve never gotten the wired ones [I had InvisAlign for ~2 years, I believe?] The 18 months will feel long during the process, but it’ll be all done once the time’s up. Also, niiice with the 3.5. Do you attend UCLA? I may have missed this somewhere, but congrats nonetheless! By comparison, you’re progressing well with your 2013 resolutions. Keep up the good work! 🙂

Whenever something sounds so good to be true, it usually is. I’m sorry that they want you to pay $750 for tuition, transportation and everything else! That’s not cool. I actually applied for Financial aid, and got the Pell grant. However, I’m not going this semester due to transportation. I thought my boyfriend was gearing to go this semester but he ended up deciding on going in the winter instead so I’m gonna have to wait till then.

I’m happy to see you reaching your goals even if they are still in progress! Keep up with your braces, and don’t do what I have done with mine. I had mine from fifth grade until 8th grade and my dad had them removed due to the fact I wasn’t up-keeping them like I should’ve. I was young and dumb and rebellious. The reason was 1.) I was pure lazy and 2.) I had 6 baby teeth pulled out and I despised it and thus lead me to be lazy about it. Now that I look back on it I wish I hadn’t been. I barely drink soda now a days and wish I could get braces. Or at least the invisalign.
