Chrysanthemum Ball
May 31, 2014

The semester is ending in 9 days from now and with that said, my first final is on Wednesday! Luckily, my finals are spread out this time since I took that into account when I registered for classes. I’m excited for the school year and semester to be over! Even though I don’t really have much planned for the summer, at least I don’t need to worry about school or anything. And as a side note, I was selected as a finalist to attend cyber camp again this year! It was surprise since I forgot to do my third attempt at the competition and I messed up on my score *_*. I turned in an application for the final selection process so hopefully I can go and learn some new cool security tricks.

This week has been a decent week. My weekends have been filled with school-related work but that sounds a bit normal for anything college-related.

On Wednesday, a good buddy treated me to lunch at a sushi place near school. It’s different from the previous sushi places I went to recently. I like this place a lot better than the other ones because the sushi here tastes better and the service is a bit friendlier. The first plate the waitress brought out had some basic rolls; the Mexican roll (spicy California roll), salmon roll, and tuna roll. Next off, there are the salmon eggs and nigiri. You probably know by now that I love salmon eggs from the sushi bowls I make. It’s fun to pop the eggs while you’re chewing them! I prefer this egg over the smaller ones because there is flavor in every pop. Then for the grand finale, the Dodger Roll was brought to the table. It took me a while to relate the roll to baseball, but I suppose each piece is supposed to look like a baseball? As for the details, it’s a California roll wrapped with cooked salmon (sides) and cooked tuna (top). Good and filling stuff, yes yes.

Then on Thursday after my political science class, I went for Korean foooood~. Instead of going for the to-go option like last time, I ate at the place so I can go for bibimbap in the stone bowl.. Which is really cool because the bowl is really hot when it’s brought out and the heat warmed/cooked the toppings inside while making the rice crispier ☺. Unlike traditional rice bowls where you eat the food as it is (in most cases), you’re supposed to mix the toppings in bibimbap. I think it’s important to mix the toppings around so the bowl doesn’t burn the rice on the bottom. It took me a while to finish the bowl but it was worth it.

Fun (but maybe obvious) fact: my boyfriend and I love to eat salmon. I wanted to try something new so I made smoked salmon wraps on Friday. It had cream cheese, avocado, tomato, lettuce, cucumber, smoked salmon, and wheat tortillas. I couldn’t wrap the whole thing together as tight as I’d like but I tried. This was the same issue I had when I first made sushi so I need practice. The wrap was cut into pieces for convenience. We liked it ☺.

Later on the day, we dressed up for his fraternity’s Chrysanthemum Ball. It was at a banquet hall that served some yummy Indian food. After dinner, there was a game where everyone in each table played against each other. We played hot potato by tossing around the prize until the music stops playing. I ended up winning the game and got a Russell Vinyl figure from the movie Up. Maybe this is a sign I should watch Up :o. Here are a couple of ‘silly’ pictures we took before going to the banquet.

I’ll be back after finals ☺.

PS. I should probably buy a legit camera.. Except I don’t take enough pictures to justify the cost *_*. Well, we’ll see.

Good luck with your finals, girl! You’ll nail them!

AND YES! You tried the “dolsot bibimbap”! That’s the actual name of the one in the stone pot 🙂 I knew you’d like it! And yes, you have to mix it FAST. Otherwise the rice will stick at the bottom and burn. But I’m glad you were able to try it 🙂 Just out of curiosity, how much was the dolsot bibimbap? Oh, and even regular bibimbap needs to be mixed. In fact, “bibim” is a conjugated word for “bibeeda” which means to mix.

Anyway, love the other food photos as well! And you and your boyfriend are adorable. ^^

Take cares and have a good remainder of the semester!

The food all looks so yummy. I wish I was better at trying new things. I always get scared I am not going to like it and have a really hard time trying things. Just out of curiosity what is the yellow thing in the middle of the bibimbap that looks like an egg yolk. Is that what it is?

PS – Good luck on your finals!

Yup! It’s an egg yolk 🙂

Congrats on being a finalist for cyber camp, and good luck on your finals! I hope you’ll be chosen form the cyber camp again 🙂

Yum, the sushi looks good. I guess I can kind of see how the roll is supposed to be baseballs? It’s sort of round, but it’s still not quite baseball-like, haha.

I loveee dolsot bibimbaps. I always get that version because of the crunchy rice that forms on the edges. I have a hard time finishing it on my own because of its size! My husband and I usually share one and get something else on the side.

The wraps look really good and healthy! You guys are also so cute dressed up 😀

Good luck with your finals! I bet you’ll ace them! The food looks so yummy~

And you guys are the cutest, especially you, Nancy. Hahaha, looking great and yes, you should watch Up. It’s amazing and possibly the best Pixar movie there is. (Okay, I know, Toy Story 3…but still..).

    Glad you had fun! ^.^

Good luck on your finals! 😀

I need to buy a better camera too, but I don’t use it often enough to shell out that much money. But I want nice pictures too. 🙁

Looks like you had a food-tastic day! Did you get a chance to snap a few pics of the Indian food that they served at the ball? Also, seeing these sushi and other food pics makes me wish I could prepare them without eating out. Better get practicing, I suppose.

Woot! You’re hitting close to home school-wise. Hang in there! When in doubt, Spark it out! I’m sure Sparky will help…oh wait, you’re not in AP English anymore. >.< But it's okay. Your work ethic will take you far. 😀

All that food looks delicious! I seriously considering popping to the sushi place near my work now D: Even though I just ate…

Good luck with all your finals! I’m 100000% you’ve got it in the bag.

Congrats on your Cyber Camp, and good luck with your finals!

I see you really love food trippin’. Yum yum! And those pictures make my mouth water.

I love the dress and your shoes, flirty and fun. You and your boyfriend seem to agree on a color scheme. Haha!

Best of luck on your finals! I’m sure you’ll ace them–just from the mere fact that you were able to plan your classes ahead so well makes me confident in knowing that you’re very intelligent and responsible. Can’t wait for your blog posts when you return!

All your food looks DELICIOUS! I love sushi and bibimbap alike. Korean food is always soooooo yummy. Then again, I’m a huge foodie myself. I’ve never eaten anything in a stone bowl before though. It sounds like a lot of multitasking … I feel like I’d just dig in and then realize that my food burnt too late! I’m glad that you enjoyed it in the end.

Was the Chrysanthemum Ball for any special occasion? You look gorgeous in the pictures! You and your boyfriend look adorable (:

Anyway, happy summer vacation! You totally deserve it. (:
