Dessert Hopping
July 28, 2016

Two weekends ago, my boyfriend and I went dessert-hopping. It was a great experience because we got a chance to cool down and enjoy a bit of everything. We stopped by Rowland Heights because of the number of dessert shops there. I definitely recommend dessert-hopping for those who are food-savvy!

Our first stop was at O’ My Buns. It’s more of a breakfast good than dessert, but how can we say no to delicious buns?! I suppose the reason why this shop appeared in our Yelp search is because of the Tutti Fruti that’s in the facility. We ordered one cinnamon walnut bun and the staff gave us one extra because the buns came out smaller than the norm that day. The bun is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. This specialty bun is $2.45 each.

Our next stop was at Honeymee. We shared a cup of milk ice cream with a honeycomb and almond slices on top. The two elements go well together! Plus, honey is good for you (as long as you don’t heat it up). The milk ice cream with honeycomb is $4.75 each and toppings are $0.25 each. The cups are small, but I get filled up with half of the cup. I think it’s definitely worth it if you’re dropping by once in a while. Honey with ice cream tastes better than honey with greek yogurt.

The next stop is Caffe Bene. We were tempted to order the parfait, but it’s a bit too big for our appetite at the time. My boyfriend also wanted the strawberry honey bread except I wasn’t feeling it. At the end, we settled for the whipped cream & banana waffle. It was so delicious and filling! I’ve never had anything with that much whipped cream before… Not even at Starbucks! For around $6.00, it settled pretty well.

After eating the waffle, we decided to eat an actual meal. We went to The Shack for some crawfish and shrimp (not pictured). I love to get my hands messy by peeling the seasoned crawfish!

For our last stop, we went to Zero Degrees. You can buy a reusable bottle for $1.50/ea and receive a 10% discount every time you bring it in. I ordered a strawberry mojito (non-alcoholic) and my boyfriend ordered the machata. I ♥ this place even though we recently discovered this shop. There is a similarly named shop (Zero X) that opened next to our school so we bought the reusable bottles there instead. We thought both of these shops are owned by the same company, but it isn’t. Zero Degrees sold their recipe list to Zero X. Whoops!

I brought my GoPro out for the day, so enjoy the video ♥~

Yum, girl. You’re making my sweet tooth ache for all the things you’ve tried. I know now to head over to Rowland Heights if I ever want good dessert in LA!

Honeymee reminds me of all the honeycomb ice cream shops that opened up here couple of years ago when it was the fad. I think that fad has faded a bit. I tried some myself, and I discovered I did not like eating honeycombs at all. It was just too darn sticky for me!

Caffe Bene cracked me up because those are EVERYWHERE here, but I never go there because I don’t really like supporting chains XD;;; I’d rather go support independent dessert/food shops ^^;; The banana waffle does sound interesting, though! Not what I’d get, personally, but it’s definitely different from your usual dessert options.

I love the concept of Zero Degrees with the reusable bottles. Also, that strawberry mojito looks super refreshing. I’d so try that! I also like the idea of combining matcha and horchata together for machata! What a great idea, actually! 😀

Thanks for sharing your dessert adventures, Nancy! I just ate, but I’m all hungry again!

Dessert hopping sounds like an awesome idea! All of those look tasty 😀 I love a good bun, and the waffle looks so good with that topping. The honeycomb thing seems to be really popular now, but I don’t think there’s any place in my city that does it. I’d like to try it though! The mojito looks good too!

Wow, that’s a lot of dessert! The waffles look so amazing – that’s such a huge mountain of cream! I’d love to try Honeymee. I love anything with honeycomb in so I bet it’s amazing!

Really enjoyed the video! And glad to see you had a good time!

All of those look delicious! I’ve been on a bit of a sweet kick myself. That waffle looking deliciousness though??? OH MAN! I’d need a nap after eating that, haha.

You guys are so cute together haha. It was nice seeing you guys come to life – I think this was the first time I’ve heard you talk too. I think you have a very mature voice for your age – you sounded older (in a good way of course). 🙂

I’m guessing that ‘bene’ was be-ne as in ‘good’ in the Italian way… but I could be wrong!

I love waffles but I usually like them plain. I’m boring haha. Also just because I can’t have too much cream or ice cream because I will get sick. I also used to eat honey with yoghurt (before my lactose intolerance kicked in), and it was just… err, gross with yoghurt. I gotta agree with you there.

I’m not a huge dessert fan, I only have a sweet tooth when it comes to candy. But I do love a good dessert. ?

Get outta my town! Get out! *makes shooing motions with hands*

I love Honeymee but I don’t go there very often. Caffe Bene is pretty good (never went there while in China, though) and Zero Degrees is alright.

It’s not my fault that your town is A~mazing with the good noms~~~

Honeymee is expensive for what it is to go often @___@…

Yum!! Dessert Hopping sounds delicious. This is something I always say after a full stomach, which is that there is always room for desserts haha.

I don’t think I’ve ever had honey with ice cream but now that you mentioned it, I’m not sure why?? Sounds really mouthwatering.

I’ve never got the point of going bar-hopping, or on the wine trail, ale trail, etc. This is mainly because I’m not a big drinker of anything alcoholic – but dessert hopping is definitely a trend that I’d get behind. Eating yummy food and spending time with friends – win-win.

All of the desserts that you and your boyfriend tried, both look and sound yum.

When I’m back, you’re taking me dessert-hopping too!

I love the name of that place – O’ My Buns. Sounds like they’re talking about butts, heee *insert immature girl here* The Honeymee drinks sounds delicious!

The video makes me miss LA! And I didn’t even get to see much of LA, hahahaha. You guys are so cute :3 “Lil’ Sum-Sum Extra” – I’m gonna start saying that IRL now. Damnnnn, Adan got game. “What do you like, Adan?” “You.” Get it, giiiiiiiirl!
