Typical Saturdate

A Typical Saturdate

My boyfriend and I spend most of our time together on Saturdays #FullTimeHustle. Our typical Saturdate would be composed of Disneyland trips. We don’t mind going there frequently because we don’t need to spend time figuring out the itinerary for the day. All we need to do is walk around the parks and see what’s good at the time. Our annual pass expires next month and we renewed it for another year!

Disney California Adventure recently had a Food and Wine Festival. I published a post a few weeks ago about our experience during the first run. Since then, we tried out a few more goods from the booths and here are some worthy mentions from the festival:

  • Verlasso Sustainable Salmon Tatami – For the price you pay, you get a generous amount of seared salmon. The avocado/wasabi sauce added the perfect kick to the taste!
  • Jackfruit Carnitas Banh Mi Nachos – We watched a chef preparing the nachos during a live demo and we were intrigued by the idea of jackfruit substituted for “meat”. Though, I felt like the jackfruit was too salty for my taste (soy sauce OD).
  • Brie Toast with Fig and Mint – This is perfect with some wine on the side!
  • Bay Shrimp Louie Salad – I love how perfectly-sized the sourdough bread bowl is. When can Boudin make this an option?

We also enjoy going to the Cove Bar in Disney California Adventure. We would usually wait 30-45 minutes for entry and it’s totally worth the wait! We have been trying out different drinks recently. One of the cool drinks is an off-menu drink (we call it James’ special because of the bartender) and it’s practically a frozen mango margarita with tajin. My boyfriend loves this drink on a hot day! I stitched together a series of clips taken throughout our recent trip to Disney. Gotta put that Vimeo subscription to good use!

Something Different: Aquarium Saturdate

It was pretty hot this past weekend so we decided to do something different and visit the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. It was my boyfriend’s first time there so the trip was extra special. We had Dim Sum for brunch so we could avoid eating lunch at the aquarium.

We enjoyed all of the exhibits. I loved the jellyfish because they are majestic. The aquarium had displays that translate the jellyfishes’ movements into music. My boyfriend had the chance to touch a mantis stingray and a shark!

After the aquarium, we walked along the pier and had a light afternoon meal (drinks included) at Yard House. I stitched another series of clips that reflected our day for the most part. Enjoy~

NAAAAANCY. DUDE. Omg Chris and I might get Disneyland passes again – we should totally meet up!!! Anyways, what camera do you use because the quality of your video is amazing.

Ugh. The nachos sound so amazing, but to be honest, I’m not a huge fan of jackfruit. I really need the good kind to even think about eating it!

That’s super sweet you took your bf to Aquarium of the Pacific. I haven’t been there in ages so I may be due for a trip soon. Love your outfit by the way! Have a good weekend 🙂

Definitely! I used my iPhone 7 to record the videos. As for pictures, they were taken with my Nikon D5500 :). Jackfruit is a hit or miss for me. Hit when I want something sweet XD.

Great photographs at the aquarium – especially the jellyfish and lobster. Good job – I couldn’t get them that clear when I went there, but it was a few years back! The sashimi at the market in your video clips made me hungry.

    • Nancy ☆ April 27, 2017 at 9:09 pm

Thanks! I probably got lucky because lighting at the aquarium was really poor @__@. Hehe, I get hungry every time I look at sashimi!

I love your post header! I’m living for that rainbow!
Oh my the food looks superb! Sign me up for salmon and shrimp anytime.
The aquarium looks dreamy! Would’ve love to spend hours there just staring at these marvelous sea creatures.
I love how your dates are spent on Disneyland! #relationshipgoals You guys aren’t the typical couples going out on restos on the weekends. Instead, you guys spend your time together on Disney rides and I think that makes for a more memorable and beautiful experience. It’s a very cool story to tell your future kids haha

Yum, the food looks good, especially the salmon tatami! I’m not sure if I’ve ever had jackfruit actually, but that sounds interesting to use it on nachos.

I like your aquarium photos, especially the jellyfish one! I’m glad you guys had a good time there. I find going to aquariums so relaxing; there’s something nice about watching fish just swim around. I love your outfit too, by the way!

Aww, I love the idea of “Saturdate!” Your food photography is on point! And jellyfish are my favorite aquatic animals! Or maybe penguins?! Ah I love them all!

I love your dress! Haha now I know where your new Twitter picture is from. 😉 It’s very summery.

I enjoyed looking at the photos and watching your Disneyland video. The food looks really good too. Especially the salmon. 😎

You look like you had tons of fun. I‘m not surprised that you renewed your annual pass. It means your boyfriend can get more Star Wars LEGO… 😏 The matcha latte looks really good! I remember having a similar looking one from the bubble tea places in Sydney but I once got it with no sugar and it was actually really bad.

The sashimi looks good, yes 😉 And the live shrimp 🦐🦐🦐🦐 I like shrimp!

Nick said we should go with you to Disneyland when we visit your side of town. 😜 Thanks for the peek on Big Thunder Mountain; I’ve been on that in Tokyo Disneyland and really enjoyed it.

I love, love, love aquariums. Jellyfish can look really odd but I agree that they look majestic.

On Saturdays we just stay at home most of the time and then go to the gym 😆😆

I sure did enjoy your videos. You tried a lot of delicious looking food. The Aquarium looks amazing!

  8. Tara ☆ April 30, 2017 at 3:25 am

Yay for renewing your Disney pass 🙂 I will now forever associate weekend Disney trips with you! 😀

HOMG. The bay shrimp louis salad sounds so good. I love sourdough bread, though, so that would be something I’d be jumping at trying! The jackfruit . . . I’ve never tried it myself, but I’d still be intrigued by it.

I love how you guys went to the aquarium to experience it together. Aquariums are not my thing, but I wouldn’t mind going there as a date place 🙂 I just about nearly died when I read your boyfriend touching a mantis stingray and a shark, but at the same time, that’s pretty daring and cool! Dim Sum sounds good for a brunch meal!

Walking along the pier — that sounds so romantic! I am not a beach person, but walking along the ocean/pier is something I would enjoy doing with someone special. Also — that lighthouse!!! I love that photo!~ And the last photo of you is lovely!

Thank you for sharing your dates! ^_^

Seriously, I need to get back to LA and see you guys ASAP. All of the Disney trips and food trips are making me so jealous – I wish there was a Disney in the UK. Everything that you tried sounds delicious!

The Disney vid is bringing back memories <3

I love aquariums! They honestly make me so happy because they're so relaxing. I love chilling out and watching the sealife go by. That's so cool that your boyfriend got to touch the animals, too. Haha, I love that you stopped by Whole Foods, too 🙂

Beautiful photos, as always, and I especially love the last photo of you! You're gorgeous <3

  10. Cassidy ☆ April 30, 2017 at 5:44 pm

Gorgeous pictures! You are so lucky that you live so close to Disneyland so you can experience all that the park has to offer.

The food looks delicious and totally looks like it’s worth trying.

I’ve been experimenting with drinks lately and my friend makes some really goo cocktails. I’m looking forward to trying more and more of them as summer comes in.

I am so jealous that Disneyland is so accessible to you! I know that if I was close by to one here, I’d go there every weekend to destress! 😛 I always enjoy reading about your Disneyland adventures 🙂

The food sounds great! Thanks for the recommendation, who knows, it might be useful one day to me (i.e. it will bebecause Disneyland Cali is somewhere I NEED to go to!!) I LOVE the photos you’ve taken btw, getting better and better 😉

Aww I love the aquarium. It reminds me of the one I went to in Lisbon, I really enjoy just watching them do their thing and taking pretty photos of all the wonderful sea creatures!

    Great job on the video!!

  12. Rachel ☆ May 1, 2017 at 12:44 pm

Wow! Looks like so much fun. Wish I was near enough to Disney where I could have an annual pass! BTW – your outfit is gorgeous!

  13. Amy ☆ May 1, 2017 at 12:45 pm

You’re so lucky to live so close to Disney! All your trips there sound amazing! I hope one day I can visit. Andy says it’s one of the best places he’s ever been!

All the food you had looks great. I’d love to try those nachos. And your photography is on point as always. I just need to try everything! Those cocktails are calling me!

The aquarium looks so cool also. I love aquariums. They’re so pretty! Your videos looks fantastic btw. Top editing skills!

  14. Teesh ☆ May 7, 2017 at 4:19 am

First of all, Nancy, hiii! You took beautiful photos once again. And how nice is that kimono?! I kinda want one for myself now. The salmon tatami looks yummy and now I’m craving for one.

I watched the video and was sad when the icecream you wanted was gone! That sucked!

    • Nancy ☆ May 7, 2017 at 1:11 pm

I got the shawl from Forever 21. It’s definitely a recommended buy ^__^! Haha, I like how I ended the video sad XD. It’s all good~

  15. Thao ☆ May 19, 2017 at 2:40 pm

    Your aquarium pictures are fantastic!

I’m not sure how I feel about jackfruit being substituted for meat. I like jackfruit just the way they are by themselves as a sweet item rather than as a savory item.
