Wrapping Up Fall Semester
December 21, 2013

I’m officially done with the semester since Monday! This semester treated me better than Spring considering how I took 5 units less from last time. Regardless, I was still busy and stressed out from the course load *o*. But that’s the norm, right? I’ll continue from the previous blog post and give an overall thought about the semester. No need for a summary since I blogged about it as I went along.

We didn’t have a final exam but rather a presentation about what we wrote in our research paper. My topic was about epigenetics and how it plays a role in achieving the American Dream with the subcategories of how genetics can be changed by the social status/adapts to the environment, mental and health dangers, physical activity, parental habits, and dietary habits. Hopefully my paper is good enough that I have a good grade in the class *o*.

The class in general was decent; though most of the people in the class are quiet so it’s awkward whenever the instructor tries to engage us in class discussions since the same few people usually answer. I try to participate the best that I can. Since this class takes place at 7:30am, I suppose it makes sense since people are tired.. I liked the class because it focuses on current issues such as the damages caused hydraulic fracturing (drilling for natural gas) and the debate about universal healthcare.

Time Management
I usually spend my “non-school” hours studying (mainly for chemistry and history) while being able to avoid schoolwork on Friday’s. While I’m busy, I manage to finish my tasks on time. It took a while for me to adjust in dedicating most of my time to school but it worked out (eventually).

I took most of my notes outside of lecture. I dedicated 1.5 regular notebook for History and a bunch of loose-leaf/plain paper for Chemistry & C++. My notes became more organized and neater this semester so that’s a plus whenever I have to study. I tried dedicating a notebook for Chemistry except that didn’t work out too well since it was too tedious to copy the lecture notes (which is based on theoretical concepts) while the quizzes and most of the exams are based on application concepts such as finding the partial + total pressure of elements while dealing with stoichiometry. I’m not a chemistry person to begin with so all of this is totally new to me; but I have to admit… It’s fun once I know how to solve the problems.

Driving + Parking
Being my 2nd semester (minus the summer session) driving to this school, parking was decent. It was a plus that I usually go to school early in the morning or during lunch when there were meetings on Thursdays so finding parking is a lot easier.

I met a bunch of great people this semester. It’s interesting to know about people and some of their background/interests. Some great conversations happened whether it’s about cars, infosec, shopping, food, the weekend, schools, and etc. There are some people I met from previous semesters who I kept in touch with so that’s a plus too :D.

With the semester officially over, I am looking forward into taking it easy this winter break + session (starting in 2 weeks). I have one more semester to go before I am done with my coursework here and hopefully transfer elsewhere. I’ll post my grades a while later when all of them are up. Christmas and New Years is coming up within the next 2 weeks! Happy holidays!

How nice for you to be done with the autumn semester! I remember how nice it was to just relax after hard studies. Now I work as usual over Christmas, but instead I’m free to do what I want after work..

I’m sorry the picture is small. I guess I should’ve added a lightbox image to it so it could pop up into a bigger picture. The picture represents the awards I received when I had lost my 10% body fat. I was presented with a 10 % keyring, and a 25 lb. washer. Since I had let it be aware that I did take Weight Watchers before, the woman who had weighed me in gave me a bronze that was 75 lbs (I believe) washer when I started to leave. She stated that it was from the time I started to this point. I need to reach something in order to get the gold one and complete that set. Hopefully I can do this.

Learning is what school is all about. Sometimes those learn faster, and some don’t learn at all. When you better yourself at note-taking you know you have learned from the first semester that it’s a lot harder than what we had imagined. But I’m glad you are finally done with the classes, and I know that you did awesome in all your classes. When I start school in the fall — I’m going to make it to were I’m a 3.5 student all A’s and B’s (hoping). I’m not going to mess around this time. What is C++? I think if I’m guessing correctly that’s computer programming? Merry Christmas to you and to your family and boyfriend.

Being done is such a great feeling. I don’t want to even think about school now. It’s great to hear that you had a great semester. Hope you have a great Christmas and New Years!

Gah, reading this really makes me miss University! I would always be so psyched after each semester was finally done, and like you: I met some really, really nice people in my classes who then continued to become some of my closest friends.

Your English class sounds really interesting, I personally really prefer classes without exams and that focus on papers, discussion and even presentations instead. I find that a far more rewarding way of learning, you know?

I hope you have a pleasant winter break and that you’ll be able to kick back for a while!

Oh, and- Merry Christmas to you! 🙂

Epigenetics sounds like a great topic for a research paper. Also I’m jealous of your organized note taking ability. I’m hopeless at taking good notes. I think I learnt some bad habits from being able to watch and re-watch recorded lectures whenever I felt like it.

Congrats on finishing this semester! I know I was happy when I finished mine! I like that sensation of feeling like I lost a load off my shoulder. I’ll be enjoying my break from school. I can’t wait since I’ll be done (hopefully, providing I don’t completely bomb my capstone project!) by April or May! You enjoy your break! You deserve it! 😀

Congrats on being done with your semester! Meeting people are often one of the wonderful factors of school and the biggest highlights I was told. That’s where you can mold yourself, become enlightened by those you surround yourself with.
I hope you have a wonderful winter break, and are refreshed for when you need to go back at it! 🙂

Ah, that wonderful feeling of completion when the end of a University semester draws to a close. I kinda miss it sometimes; lectures, labs and studying. Then again, I ended up with an aversion toward Chemistry, so maybe that’s not the best bit for me at least!

Congrats on making it to the end of another semester & enjoy 2 weeks chill-out time! 😛

    I miss having english class. i miss writing even though college english is all about writing essays..unlike high school where we get to write short stories too. and yeah, now that i’m done with english class I and II, there’s no more of that for me haha..it’s all about specialized subjects related to my major now. -___-;;

my college english classes last year were awkward too. simply because i was in a mixed class with the seniors 😛 and man, i hate group discussion -__- and group work. anything that involves working in team.

you spend your non school hours studying!? no wonder you’re always on the top notch! eugh i can never enjoy studying :)) it’s too…”dead” …like, i’d rather experiment than reading textbooks (the reason why i like chemistry since we get to do wet lab stuff)… it’s different when it comes to reading novels/story books though haha then i have my bookworm mode.

i forgot the last time i actually used a pen to write. to take notes. i used to do that a lot in high school too but now..it’s all about pencils and softwares and mouse clicking with tablet stylus and then there goes the drawing and stuff. no pen, only pencils; back to classic.

parking is annoying! lol i’m not a good driver when it comes to parking… which is why i always get scolded and yelled at by my dad. (never drive with parents! ugh. at least i know mine’s annoying that they think they drive perfectly while i am so out of that perfect zone)

i really envy you for being so…social. haha. you can communicate and meet new people and actually talk to them. i can’t do that. it’s usually the other person who started it first…then when we know we both like the same stuff, that’s where my real self jumps in :))
