Fall Activities Plan
August 18, 2013

During my first of many years of college, I decided to take things easy and focus on my coursework. With my second year coming up, I have some activities planned for the Fall semester.

• National Cyber League
Following cyber camp, I received an invitation to participate in the National Cyber League this upcoming season. I went ahead and “accepted” the invitation by registering and paying the fees earlier today. The National Cyber League basically prepares college students for the cybersecurity field by providing labs and challenges for the Security+ and Certified Ethical Hacker certification exams. It’s perfect for me since I’m majoring in CIS and plan on acquiring the Security+ certificate in the nearby future.

• Scholarships
With my school offering hundreds of scholarships every semester, I decided that I am going to apply for some scholarships during the fall (and spring). In the long run, it will definitely help cover some student fees I will incur. As of now, I am halfway done with the application and the other half is to be completed some time next month. I need a letter of recommendation from a staff member at school. It will probably be challenging since the only staff I can think of is the counseling department.

• Student Club(s)
I am taking 15.5 units this semester.. Which means I will have more free time in my hands. I mentioned about the interest a few blog posts ago and will apply for membership when the time comes. Other than that, I don’t have any other organizations in mind to join since everything else is out of my interest criteria. If someone (other than me) creates a club for IT majors, that’d be great! If not, I can wait to transfer to a school that offers that kind of club/organization.

In other news, there was a rabbit in my backyard the other day. My family decided to keep the rabbit since it was starving and made itself feel right at home. I haven’t given the rabbit a name yet.. For sure, the rabbit is super adorable. He is usually roaming around the yard and lays down in the shade. Luckily, my cats have no interest in the rabbit. I have a picture of the rabbit on Instagram.

Edit: (8/27) I’m skipping this week’s blog post. I have nothing significant to talk about. See you next week~

Ah, that’s great that you’re finding exciting things to do this semester! It sounds like the National Cyber League will be really helpful for you in the future, so it’s awesome you managed to get a place on it! 🙂
Our uni doesn’t have many clubs or societies, unfortunately, but I agreed to be the Treasurer for the Drama society (my friend is the president and needed someone to fill the role) so hopefully that should make things interesting!

That’s so cute that your family took in the rabbit. :3

Congrats on getting an invite for the National Cyber League! I hope that will be a good experience like cyber camp was 🙂 Good luck on the scholarships too!

15.5 units sounds more manageable than what you had before 🙂 I tried out a few organizations when I was in college, and I ended up sticking with just one. I really liked being in my college’s ACM chapter.

Aww, the rabbit is adorable! That’s so cute that it just made itself at home!

It’s good that you’ve decided to focus on coursework. I always try to do that, but I end up getting loads of overtime at work instead. It’s my final year of uni this year so I think it’s about time I focussed on the work, haha. Good luck with the scholarship applications!

That rabbit is so cute. It’s nice that you’re looking after it. My friend did that with a cat they found and they’ve had it four years now. They fed it once and it kept coming back for food so they ended up keeping it. Animals are funny.

I can’t stop playing Candy Crush. Whenever I’m about to get on with something more important I just end up procrastinating and playing, then waiting for my lives to reappear. What’s worse is I’m rubbish at it so I’ve spent loads of time playing and I’m still under level 100. I fail at Candy Crush, haha.
    xx

OMG that is an adorable bunny! XD

And wow you’re doing so many things! Guess what I’ve done in preparation for a new year… nil, nothing, nought. The cyber league thing sounds really interesting though! 🙂

Getting involved really made all the difference for me last year. I was pretty depressed since I had moved away from home, but once I started going to Impact (a student ministry on campus) and started meeting such awesome, beautiful people, I loved college. Though it’s hard to balance your academics with extracurricular activities, so I totally understand not getting too involved the first year.

Goo luck on those scholarships! It’s hard work, but it’s free money and totally worth it in the end!! I hope you get some!

Good luck on the scholarships!! I have a hunch you might get it 😉 judging from your previous entries about your mark, you sound super smart, nancy T-T i envy your brain, really. hehe

You’re really active in school, aren’t ya 😉 not a bad thing, of course. I don’t know why i was never so active like you haha I never had the courage to participate in this or that 🙁 too afraid and too much of a coward to face failure/losing …sigh.

Yeay for free rabbit 😀 I’m not a fan of rabbits as pets since they can’t take a bath hence the smell but yeah, they ARE cute, i admit. The white rabbit is so adorable too, especially with the black marking around its eye… hm,for a moment there i thought it’s an albino 😛

followed ya on instagram~ uehehehe *stalkerish mode*

Even though you said that you’ll have more free time this semester, it still sounds like it will be busy for you! Good luck on the scholarships!

The rabbit looks like it chose you guys to live with. :p Sometimes it’s not us who choose our pets, it’s the pets who choose us. 😉

Oh gosh, you’re in for some interesting times this coming semester. I like how you plan to incorporate your future experiences in cyber league to your future career. Very wise and efficient strategy to strengthen your credentials.

Good luck on your scholarship applications! Remember that the answer’s always no if you don’t apply at all, so researching them is a good start. 🙂

Lastly, that rabbit’s simply adorable! >.<

Sounds like a great semester for you! This is my final semester but I still have quite a few classes that will require a lot of my time. I was invited into Honor Society so that is pretty much the extent of my activities until graduation. haha.

Congrats on National Cyber League, sounds like something I would join if my school had it. Good luck on the scholarships!!

That rabbit is way too cute! Nice job for your family taking him/her in! I wish I could have a pet but where I live they don’t allow them. I can’t wait to move!
