Hello, Twenty-Fifteen
January 1, 2015

Happy New Year! It’s 2015 already?! I can’t believe how fast time flew, especially since starting college back in Fall 2012. The biggest thing happening this year would probably be me turning 21 (turn down for what?!). In September, I should be entering my 4th and hopefully last year of my bachelor’s degree track. New year means new adventures, challenges, and experiences on top of the same ol’ routines we normally do. I’m actually looking forward to what’s in stored- mostly the good but I’ll do whatever it takes to overcome the bad.

Goals to Accomplish

For the third year, I made a list of goals to accomplish. Part of the list is meant to guide me to the right path while the other part is fun stuff because I like to have some play with all of the work I put in. While I have some smaller goals or goals that will develop over the year, I picked 9 that stood out to mention:

  • On the Road to a Music Festival: For the longest, I’ve been wanting to go to an electronic dance music festival. This might be the right year to finally go to one and I’m looking at you, Escape! I would love to go to EDC instead but maybe next year or the year after.
  • Roadtrippin’: I love to explore to new and different places except I have been lazy about it for the longest. It might be due time for me to go somewhere out of town even if it’s for a couple of hours.
  • Bettering My Appetite: Instead of going for a 4×4 at In-N-Out, going for a simple cheeseburger should suffice. The biggest challenge would be cutting the amount of meat I eat; except I won’t cut it out completely (until I get the love for steak and ribs out of my system).
  • Journaling My Budget: Keeping mental notes of my spending each week can get confusing sometimes and can lead up to overestimating or underestimating. Journaling my budget whether it’s through seriously utilizing Mint or writing down how much I spend per week can go a long way.
  • Security+ for a Safer Future: I think it’s time for me to finally get serious about working towards getting a Security+ certification. Time to finally read the study booklets!
  • Build Credit Myself: I failed this part last year because I didn’t bother using my credit card for anything other than gas. Now that I have a standalone credit account, I can freely use my credit card for the other things I buy!
  • Pick 15 Pins: Pinterest is awesome because your pins can be organized into little sections. Picking 15 pins to make from my food Pinterest board sounds dandy to me!
  • Dress Nicer: … Or at least stop being lazy about picking out my clothes for the day. At least I never go out with sweats or pajamas so that’s a start?! I’m not saying I should dress like a fashionista (??) either but I’ll try to pick colors that matches together.
  • Vroom Vroom: If I could test drive at least one of the three modern muscles (camaro, challenger, and/or mustang), I would be thrilled!

Let’s make this a fun and memorable year. Good luck with everything and I wish you all the best!

I hope you have a really great 2015 and are able to do all the items in your list, or work towards them. 😀

Best of luck with your goals! I’m hoping to build some credit too, but I’m waiting until I graduate to get a credit card (I’m too close to grad to get a student one. Too much effort to switch.).

Are you doing anything to celebrate your 21st? Personally, I want to go to New York but I want to wait until my legs get stronger so I can walk around for hours and hours!

I haven’t decided what to do for my 21st yet ;~;. But for sure, I’m definitely not going all out or getting drunk in the public :D. News to develop 😉

It’s really good that you’ve laid out goals for the next year. As for me, I wanted to be spontaneous yet adventure-filled experiences. I hope we all have an amazing year ahead. 🙂

Good luck with your goals. I still don’t get Pinterest. What do you do? T_T

I also need to start keeping track of my expenses again! I use Mint but I stopped checking it, and I’e been ignoring it since.

First of all, Happy New Year! These goals are pretty reasonable, especially the part on building credits. It takes time, but getting a good credit score will make it easier for you in the long term [especially when you’re ready to buy a house]. I’m sure you know that already. xD

Dressing nicer…You mean you don’t!? Your past hauls gave me an impression that you dress pretty well – at least when time calls for it. And yes, you’re already off to a good start by not wearing PJ’s and sweats outside. Do college kids these days not wear sweats to school anymore? BLASPHEMY! That’s the only time when it is okay to dress like a slum outside and not be suspected of trespassing the property. 😛

    • Nancy ☆ January 2, 2015 at 9:44 pm

Or even buying a car 😉 ;). The nice clothes (dresses) I have in my hauls are usually for special occasions. I need some casual dresses!! I’m working on that as soon as the sales hits. I’ve seen people wear sweats or gym clothes to school, but I haven’t because both is just oversized shirts and really short shorts (so I look like I’m just wearing a shirt). :D. #ImSoWeird

Great goals and best of luck! I can tell you that I have to watch my spending when it comes to food. Kind of gets more difficult to do so when you know that you want to use your credit card more often to build credit.
    Happy New Year! 🙂

Good luck with the goals Nancy and wishing you a super awesome 2015. I found myself agreeing with many of the goals you listed, especially Pick 15 Pins idea. I may steal that myself though I would limit it to 10. xD Journaling My Budget is another great idea which I also played with but decided to go with an expense app on my phone. All the best for this year. 😀

That’s exciting that you’ll be entering the last year of your bachelor’s degree later this year! Those are some great goals. I like that it’s a mix of fun things and things that serve as a guide.

Even though my city is known for its music festivals, I haven’t been to any. I keep telling myself I’ll go to one some day, haha. Like your goals, I’ve also been wanting to eat better and dress a bit better. I got lazy about dressing nice since my work doesn’t care!

I used to journal my spending, which was an eye opener on where the money was going. (For me, it was mostly eating out.) I stopped a while ago, and this reminds me that I should pick it up again!

I hope you’ll be able to get your Security+ certification and also build up credit! Good luck on all of your goals!

Happy New Year! Your list sounds like a great way to start the year & nice variety of things. I tend to stick to the same 3 things and haven’t seemed to accomplish them, lol.

  10. Tara ☆ January 5, 2015 at 2:13 am

Happy 2015, Nancy! Good luck with all your goals for this year. And wow, you’re turning 21?! Oh, I envy you! To me, 21 was the best age since I could finally drink legally and whatnot XD Plus, I was still in uni and subbing for my band teacher, so those were the days . . .

Good luck with the credit building. I had no idea what I was doing other than being AFRAID of my first credit card that I got when I was . . . twenty-something. Can’t remember when *sweatdrops* Regardless, I remember being scared about effing up my credit card usage, and I’ve been always paranoid to the point of never making a late payment, and I haven’t! Just always remember to pay it off on time! I’ve got 3 now, and it’s a pain trying to keep track and whatnot!

  11. Chynna ☆ January 5, 2015 at 4:07 am

YOU’RE GONNA BE 21. YOU CAN DRINK LEGALLY.

IS THIS REAL LIFE? OR IS THIS FANTASY?

How exciting, though. I’m gonna be 23, this year. Dammit. I’m basically a grandmas.

Awesome goals – would love to go to an EDM festival, one day!

  12. Becca ☆ January 5, 2015 at 8:07 am

    Happy 2015, Nancy!!

Ooh, I rally like your 15 pins goal. I pin a lot on pinterest, especially food, but I rarely get around to actually trying out any of the recipes. I might try something similar, maybe once a month try something new – could make for a nice change. 🙂 You should blog about your failures/successes with them – I’d love to read them and get ideas!

  13. Carolynne ☆ January 7, 2015 at 6:31 pm

I love all your goals. They are very realistic and attainable. Good luck with accomplishing them. I already wrote a couple out, but I may steal a couple of your ideas and have them in the back of my mind to try to do as well.

  14. Holland ☆ January 10, 2015 at 5:02 pm

As long as that simple cheeseburger is from In-N-Out, then it’s all good 😉

As for building credit, I’ve always been told that the best way is to have one credit card and use it for something like gas, and use it on that one thing only. That way you keep track of your finances by knowing exactly what you’ve spent it on and you’ll be able to pay it off in full every month, because it’ll be a smaller amount compared to if it’s used at various stores on various purchases.

  15. Tiff ☆ January 11, 2015 at 11:34 am

Your goals are very much attainable & realistic! Well, maybe not the Pinterest ones until summer haha, but I’m only saying that because they look easy to do at first, & then you’re like, “meh…..maybe nah….whatever.” Not saying that you can’t do them because you’re incapable, only saying that MAN, there are great pinterest ideas out there, but you can only get to so many of them.

As for the meat thing, try picking up a new cookbook. If you want to do a better job of cutting back your meat intake, it helps to read some literature on the meat industry. Not trying to turn you into a vegetarian or a pescetarian like your boyfriend & me, but it helps to have a cause. Sometimes health isn’t enough for people, sometimes you have to cut back because you believe in a cause. Or if you’re too lazy, watch a documentary with your boyfriend. My favorite one is Food, Inc. It isn’t very long & it’s really powerful. It’ll make you think twice about where you get your food from & to make healthier decisions. Josh has seen a bunch of food documentaries with me. He isn’t a vegetarian nor a pescetarian, but he’s more cautious than before, taking care to buy free range organic chicken when possible. Even my parents who refuse to watch documentaries or read things I send them have come around to realizing that boom, I was right (OBVI) & that buying organic free range no anti-biotic fed chickens are healthier, plumper, & tastier. (Mom made pho ga for Christmas & my dad bought organic free range no anti-biotic chickens from Albertson’s. They were so fat, juicy, & plump, they made the other chickens my mom got from the Viet store look terrible. Decided they’re worth the extra money after seeing the comparison.) Anyway, I hope that kind of helps on cutting back. You need a cause to stick by & not just because it’s a “goal” because some people need more motivation. Sad truth yanoeee.

You know what? You can get two of your goals out by the summer: road trip to Vegas for EDC. Boom. Done.

Or maybe try camping although it’s kind of expensive if you don’t have gear to borrow or already have. How about just a trip up north to SF? You can stay at a place via AirBnB or a hostel & eat yourself some amazing dim sum, oysters, clam chowder, & everything else! Tons of stuff to do there. Heck, if you feel like being charitable, they’ve got a homeless shelter down there where you could volunteer to feed the homeless.

As for dressing nicer, try making a new board for fashion to help inspire you. Being fashionable doesn’t require you to spend money unless you want to. You can be quite thrifty about it, you just have to shop around. Mango, Zara, H&M, Express, & even Forever21 have some great deals on professional attire. Forever21 is cheap though…so expect the clothes not to last very long. If you want to spend extra cash, well check out Top Shop!!

Happy New Year & I hope you accomplish all of your goals!

omg you DID NOT just use that turn down for what reference 😛 i’m so annoyed at that song…last year, that song was everywhere! everyone was blasting it off the speakers, the same with jessie j’s bang bang and ariana grande’s songs, and then when taylor swift’s shake it off came out, everyone kept on tuning in to that. sigh. my friends always use them to annoy me haha i tend to have issues with mainstream songs turning into meme 😛

ah you’re going to graduate this year!? omg so fast *o* i still wish my parents didn’t give me their stupid asian reasons for forbidding me to work when i got an offer last time. i could have my worries lessened, y’know, with the thought of having permanent job before i actually graduate (because job interviews are scary TTATT)

talking about edm festival, it reminds me of how there was one in here last year. but i had no idea about it because i don’t keep up with events in my city, unless it’s about my favorite band coming over (but even that i couldn’t attend because a. i don’t have anyone close who like the said band / understand my love for bands and b. my parents are too ‘asian’ to let me live my life). anyway, i knew about the edm fest super late and it’s from my cousin who happens to, surprisingly, enjoy edm as well! i felt so betrayed LOL (and i heard that the event is annually held and zedd came in 2013. double betrayed BAM!)

i’d love to go on a road trip too but sadly, my family is not nature lovers and i don’t have my license yet to drive. plus, i don’t have a car of my own. this is why i have like endless things in my to-do list once i get a job of my own and can pay for my own needs. so many things to do, the things i was never allowed to :s

HAHAHAHA no.3!! imagine if i were to live in the US, i’d definitely try subway, in-n-out and taco bells despite not liking fast food. okay, i mean i get why fast food is delicious and probably drool-worthy addicting. but i was never a huge fan of them – excluding mcdonald’s mcflurry, of course. but for those three i mentioned, i NEED to know their taste ugh especially the burrito in taco bells!! also, let’s not forget i’m a fan of sandwich so there 😉

if i can not eat meat as often, i know you can! LOL then again i cut meat from my diet since 2013, since i was so anxiously keen about looking thinner and thinner. the only ‘meat’ i consume 95% of the time would be fish. i only eat steak once in a blue moon, like super super rare. believe it or not, i ate steak once in 2014. ONLY ONCE. yup. (not beef, but STEAK…like 200gr of rib eye steak, yeah)

my pinterest has been drenched by inspiration for hair colors lately :)) i stopped posting my photographs there because i think no one would care to look at them 😛 same goes for my flickr. sigh. but i felt like i can’t delete my flickr, at least not yet.

ever since i lost 10kg in a year, i’ve been so keen about how i’m gonna look outside the house. i dress like a hobo at home but when i go out, i feel like i need to turn on my switch and kind of be “a different person” – or so people think 😛 they’re always like “wahhh your style reminds me of japanese people!” and i’m like “haha yea you wanna see my hobo self at home” on the inside xD

if you think you need to ‘dress nicer’, i think i should tell myself to ‘dress nicer FASTER’ because i swear i can stay in my closet like minutes just to decide on what to wear pfft i’d be lying if i say i don’t care how i look outside. plus, following my own style makes me feel…confident. kinda.

    • Nancy ☆ January 18, 2015 at 10:42 am

The only reason why I don’t mind TDFW is because of its music video. It’s so dumb that it sticks into my brain. Everything else has no significance other than being annoying! (I’m looking at Taylor Swift too).

nonononono, I’m graduating next year!! Or I hope so next year!! What if you already got accepted to a new job? You parents would have to be forced to say yes or else they should feel embarrassment for holding you back! I don’t know how it is over there, but by the time you graduate here, you need to have “2+ years of experience” for an entrance-level job. ENTRANCE. I guess this is where my IT stuff comes in!! You need to get your car soon!! But you have plenty of time! You’re totes young ;D. We are young ;D.

I still haven’t eaten Taco Bell yet. People hype over it too much; I usually eat authentic Mexican tacos *o*. There are a lot of sandwich places here! (I like Wich Wich over Subway!) I dress like a hobo at home too… But I don’t mind that, I mind more about dressing ~nicer~ outdoors….. Uh… Something better than looking lazy with jeans and a hoodie.
