Life Lately
February 1, 2016

Happy February! How are your New Year’s resolutions coming along?

Schoolwork is keeping me busy as always, but that’s all part of the hustle. This quarter, my “favorite” class would probably be computer forensics- except we’re going over the concepts at the moment. I can’t wait to get to the part where we use actual software to perform data analysis from bit-stream images. The class is a bit tough because the professor wants you to be very specific with your words- but it makes sense since a computer forensics examiner makes a living out of being an expert witness in court. My least favorite class would be Ethics in Agriculture because I really expected the class to literally be about ethics in growing trees… Not about Kant and his philosophy beliefs, but it’s all cool~

Capturing the Flag

A few weeks ago, my team and I participated in a cyber security competition. We did well enough to advance to the final round where we have an all expense paid trip to Seattle for a weekend. This will be an exciting experience because I’ve never been to Seattle before. I’m not expecting to take the gold (although it would be nice) but as long as we do our best, I’m happy.

FriDate v. 3.2016

Two Friday’s ago, my boyfriend and I had our weekly FriDate at a Japanese restaurant. We both picked out the omakase (chef’s choice) as our main course. The sushi chef served us 8 pieces of nigiri, which all of them were delicious! In these types of restaurants, people usually go there for quality sushi rather than quantity unless they’re some sort of baller. Here are the 6 top nigiri from my visit: Sea Bream, Bluefin Tuna, Cherry Salmon, Amaebi, Striped Jack, and Black Cod.

Fridate v. 4.2016

My boyfriend and I had another one of our FriDate’s last week at The Old Spaghetti Factory. The funny thing is that we were supposed to go here a few years ago (before we got together) for some band thing but it never happened… This restaurant is alright for what it is considering how each plate is relatively cheaper than other places. Service was kind of slow at the beginning to the point where I thought the servers forgot about us. Once someone attended to us, the service was much better so all is forgiven. I had the garlic shrimp fettuccine and it was pretty okay. Between the white and red sauce, I like the red sauce better.

Oh my goodness, those nigiri look so exquisite. A good nigiri place.. I would love to go with my boyfriend..but I’ve already blown my budget for dining out this month. XD

Good luck on your competition in Seattle. Have fun. Do try to go to Pike Market Place early in the morning around 7AM and get some Russian pastries at Piroshky Piroshky near the original Starbucks. And while you’re at the original Starbucks, order their Pike Place special (which basically taste like their normal coffee to my untrained tongue but it’s a single drip serve so it’s “special”). Then buy one of their Pike Place ceramic mug that you can’t get anywhere else (best purchase ever).

The first thought that went through my head is, “Who the heck is Kant?!” I’ll Google him in a bit, haha! I’m glad you are finding computer forensics interesting. The fact that your professor emphasise on the importance of word make sense when you’d have to be an unbiased witness in court or something.

Yay for your team advancing in that competition! Even better that you’re going to Seattle for it! 😀 Dunno much about Seattle, but I’m with Thao on going to those Pike Place Starbucks! But good luck with the competition later!

And yay for Fridates! Those sushi looks nommy (even though I don’t eat them LOL) and that fettucine looks so rich X_X My lactose intolerant stomach squirmed at it, but my own cognitive self wishes I could eat those and not worry about the repercussions!

Anyway, it sounds like you had a busy yet productive January. Here’s to wishing a good February for you, Nancy! ^_^

Sushi is one of those things that I think I want to try but I’m gonna be honest and say your picture is putting me off. The ones that are little like rice rolls or something like more appettising!

But! I’m glad you enjoyed it. That’s the important thing 🙂

And good luck with the competition. I hope you get to see some of the city too

That’s fine XD. Sushi along with many foods is an acquired taste. It can be said the other way around when I don’t like eating baked food ;). But that’s respectable because everyone is different~

You always go to such yummy places and get the most delicious foods! I wished I loved sushi more or any fish dish, but I know my husband would love them.

I know who Kant is. He’s a philosopher that lived a long time. Immanuel Kant, am I right? Good luck!

I hope you really enjoy when you are able to put the things you learn into use, I am sure it will be exciting. 😀

That is really cool that you get to go to Seattle, I hope you have a great time. I also hope that you do well in the competition, even if you don’t get the gold, getting that far is so cool. 😀 Plus, free trip!

Oh yum, that sushi looks so good. Some of them I don’t know if I would be brave enough to try haha.

Food! Honestly, I have never had raw sushi and I probably never will unless someone whom I trust eats it with me. LOL It does look good though.
That spaghetti place sounds like a let down. I probably wouldn’t have cared for it. One type of food I have never been fond of is Italian. Not sure why though.

I love the weekly FriDate idea, me and my boyfriend try to make time for each other weekly too but it’s always on random days! 😛 The sushi looks amazing, I haven’t had Japanese food in like FOREVER.

I always get paranoid when I think that the waiters forget us! I’ve had really bad service though where the waiter didn’t even approach us for our drinks until like 30 minutes of sitting there waiting? Wasn’t even that busy either!

Keep up the hard work at school!

Computer forensics just sounds super interesting! I’m glad you’re enjoying the class!

Your posts always make me hungry, Nancy lol. I love that you and your boyfriend have “fridates.” So cute!

I didn’t realize that The Old Spaghetti Factory was a chain. XD We have one in this really old building downtown, so I just thought it was unique, haha! I remember my family going there all the time when I was younger, but I remember the last few times being disappointed so we haven’t been there since. At least it was “okay,” sorry it wasn’t better though. At least it looks good!

Congrats on getting to the final round! That’s awesome that you get a free trip to Seattle 😀 I’ve been before, but it’s been many years. It’s a great city!

Oohh yum, those nigiri pieces look delicious. Now I want some too, haha. I definitely like quality over quantity, especially with nigiri. Pieces aren’t cheap!

Wahhh, that pasta dish looks rich. That’s too bad the service was slow at first, but that’s good that it was better later. I normally prefer white sauces, though I choose red more often since I’m lactose intolerant!

I’ve always been a bit of a fan of Kant if I’m being perfectly honest. I sometimes think my ideal universe to live in would be one based on Deontological ethics. ‘People have a duty to do the right thing’ seems like a wonderful albeit idealistic and not practical moral code.

  11. Georgie ☆ February 7, 2016 at 7:39 pm

That’s cute that you guys visited the restaurant you were actually supposed to visit ages ago! 🙂 I prefer red pasta sauce as well – napolitana over carbonara for sure. White sauce usually has milk in it and makes me sick because I can’t drink milk. ?

I’m not really that surprised that you are learning about philosophy in your ethics class, I guess you’d have to learn about that kind of stuff to understand all the content? I hope it doesn’t get too dull though. When I studied communication we had to learn about all these philosophers!

Wow, you are really good. Goodluck on your trip to Seattle. By the way, what do you call the font you used on your header? It looks nice. Any fonts similar you could recommend? Thanks. 🙂

  13. Amy ☆ February 8, 2016 at 4:34 am

Hope you have fun at the competition! That sounds really cool, even if you don’t win.

The food looks amazing. I’ve never actually had sushi, but that looks lovely.

I wish me and my boyfriend worked the same hours. We can never set up a regular date night as I never know when he’ll be working. Glad to hear you’ve been having fun!

  14. Brandy ☆ February 8, 2016 at 8:40 am

Seeing as I’m a carb fanatic, that pasta looks delicious. I would have personally replaced the shrimp with chicken but that’s just me. I’ve never been keen on trying sushi but I think that’s only because raw fish doesn’t really sound that appetizing. I need my food to look cooked and less alive looking. Lol
