The Little Bytes
October 9, 2016

The blog title fits my techie personality even though this post has little to do with techie things. It has been a month since I started working at the new company and the experience has been worthwhile. I have been trying to figure out the life portion of the work-life balance. I thought I didn’t have enough time in the day to do everything I want… That is until I realized I’ve been gaming too much (holla at skyforge). I’ll probably take it easy this week 😹. Here are the recent little “bytes” that matters to me:

  • Making small monthly donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital & Kitten Rescue LA.
  • Increasing my Banana Republic wardrobe. Trying to be fashionable while wearing business casual.
  • Another step into adulthood: setting up my 401k/retirement plan. Future Nancy better be thankful!
  • Being able to plan a little winter vacation with my boyfriend. More details to come~
  • Making my own fruit-infused water with chia seeds. Totally cheaper than buying weekly drinks from Whole Foods.
  • When my boyfriend takes cute pictures of me.
  • Made a dive and got the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card.
  • Buying traveling accessories just to be organized.
  • Free lunches/dinner because my company is awesome.
  • Learning how to assess a company’s network security policy and procedure. Taking baby steps into the pool of sharks.
  • Practicing photography skills. Maybe the 35mm is all I need!
  • Our matching shirts.

The title is adorable and perfectly fitting to do a compilations of all the little life happenings 😀 This should definitely be your new title for your life lately posts!

And yay for opening up a 401k plan! I had one . . . but I don’t understand it. X____X Do yourself a huge favour and understand the darn thing, especially since you’re starting it now!

I can’t wait to hear the full details of your upcoming trip. A trip here and there is a must — really good for your mental and physical health 😀 Speaking of healthy — that’s great you’ve been making your own chia seed infusion! If I go to LA, will you make me one? 😀

It’s good to buy accessories that will help you organise 🙂 Just don’t buy them and not use them like I’ve done several times XD I need to buy a couple more pouches to help with packing, too.

That’s a sweet credit card, but the annual fee is a bit of a nonono for me ^^;;; But I can definitely see its benefits! Use that card well, Nancy 😀

Your photo skills have improved with that DSLR! 😀 And I love the photos of you and your boyfriend! You guys are very photogenic! ^^

Those are some very awesome little snippets of life – and really well-rounded too. Go you! 🙂

Love the Disney pics. You definitely have some great photography skills! Oh and I totally would never have thought to put chia seeds in my water! Ahhhhmazing

Your matching shirts are super cute! I like that they’re Iron Man, haha.

I really like the idea of your little “bytes” post! I think it’s great to remember what we’re thankful for or what points matter to you the most. It’s a good way to stay positive.

Also – I love the last photo!

I can’t believe your opening a retirement plan now. In the U.K. we’re obligated to pay into a pension scheme in the workplace (which comes out monthly) but I’ve never organised anything myself. Unless this is the US equivalent of a pension scheme – I don’t know, sorry. It’s definitely good to save for the future though – I’m panicked that I should be doing something now!

The photos look amazing. I love the barrel one especially – so artistic!

Hope the new job is going well! Free lunches sound amazing!

Ah, the title! We almost named one of our features at work the “daily byte”, haha. I like the photos that you took of each other, and that’s exciting that you guys are planning a winter vacation 🙂 I’m glad work is going well too!

yas guurl keep practicing yer photography skills! I envy you who have lots of time and chances of practicing because i don’t go out as often as before and i don’t really take my dslr outside anymore. i only use it to take pictures of products for my blog post now 🙁

anyway, your life achievements are working out so nicely for you, it seems. you’re so lucky 😀 (plus, being able to buy banana republic. i’d never be able to buy that. it’s hella expensive here ^^;;)

I think the title “The Little Bytes” is super cute!

I don’t know if I’ve ever formally congratulated you on the new job but congratulations! I always get so excited when I see people succeeding and getting work in their field. There is nothing more empowering, to me, than seeing other people progress. It’s inspiring. Good luck to you and your career!

Also, you and your boyfriend are way too adorable <3

You have been really busy! It’s great that you are starting the 401k. I don’t know exactly how it works, but anything that can be a huge benefit to your future is really important.

I adore the photos, they look fantastic. 😀

Your new job looks like so much fun (even the broken blinds, girl. LOL)! Loving all your snaps of eats and such. Hmmmm.

Ah, I remember signing up for my pension when I first started work too. In my head I’m like I’m still so young to be thinking about retiring but at the same time, I needs to have money when I’m old and can no longer work. Looking forward to hearing about you and Adan’s trip!

I love travel accessories 😀 Your photography is off the chain! I especially like the photo of the ‘Fire’ barrel in focus. Gosh, you and Adan are goals – too kawaii with your matching shirts.

Aww I love this little ‘Little Bytes’ you’re doing on your blog – I think you should definitely keep it up. It’s like a regular appreciation post and the name is in line with what you do at work. 🙂 Sometimes we should definitely focus on the little things that matter!

Keen to hear about your winter vacation!

As for your wardrobe, it’s nice when you find one brand that you like and can branch out just in terms of that one brand. I have a few go-to brands and that helps me pare down my wardrobe a little bit. Thankfully at work I don’t have to go fully business at all, but I like to dress up a little, as you probably know and that we’ve discussed outside of blog comments! ?

I feel you on the free lunches/dinner, as you know, we get fed breakfast and lunch at work!

It’s good you are practicing your photography skills. I haven’t used my camera a lot in the past year and it’s kinda sad! Since the photography blog I shoot for is going on a hiatus, I think I’m losing my opportunity there. ? And concerts was my main thing and now I am using my camera a lot less. I was thinking of even selling my gear. I only have one lens but it was super expensive, as was the body. But that’s something I’m going to have to think about!

I love the blog title! When I first read it, I was like, “Oh, Nancy!” Hahaha! I also love the idea of having these little “bytes” that matter to you, I enjoyed reading them!

My heart is melting at you and your boyfriend’s matching shirt, how cute are both of you – gosh!! I love the photos he’s taken of you too – very instagram-worthy I must say!

(Also, so obsessed with chia seeds right now so when I saw them on your blog, I whipped up a fruit smoothie and sprinkled a lot allllll over it – yum!)

    Ah yes, welcome to adulthood.

High-five for starting your 401k. Definitely do whatever matching they provide. Also, if there’s any employee-share plans for corporate stocks where you can buy it at a discount. I was hesitant at first since it was intimidating, so I waited 2 years before buying…during those 2 years, the stocks grew a chuck. And even if it doesn’t grow much, you already somewhat profit from the discount rate. Just look into how the tax works for that, but even then, you’ll still end up in the positive most of the time. (Ask any senior coworkers and they’ll probably give you a good inside scope.)

Haha, the banana republic wardrobe. Yes! It’s funny when my male coworkers and I end up wearing the same dress shirt because we all got it from the BR outlet. We also all have the Banana Republic credit card. This is good when they have promotions where it’s 5% rewards on any non-BR items (such as hotels). This basically pays for my wardrobe updates. Ann Taylor and LOFT are also other great stores to check out for petite work clothes.

Ahh man, Chase Sapphire Reserve! Geez I feel outdated. I had to look up what this card is. LOL. Looks like I need to upgrade to this card from the Sapphire Preferred. “Access to 900+ airport lounges worldwide with complimentary Priority Pass™ Select membershi*” This is very tempting. XD
