May Skies
May 3, 2015

Happy May, everyone! I can’t believe April flew by really quick, especially with all of the events that happened. At least I’m glad to say that I’m finally getting involved in school even if it’s something small. Initially, I wanted to be involved from the very beginning but I decided to take things really slow, but I’m getting somewhere now. Better late than never!

Last week, I led a workshop-presentation to a classroom full of high school students on the bare basics of cyber security through my boyfriend’s engineering club. I prepared a couple of workshop activities to make the most out of the time I was given. At the end, I ended up going through one activity, which is using John the Ripper to crack Linux passwords. I walked the students through the steps of using a virtual machine. Through the process, I gave a brief introduction on what cyber security is along with the importance of it. The students didn’t know the existence cyber security at first but after being able to crack some Linux passwords, many students became interested in cyber security (even if it’s the slightest bit). Overall, the workshop went well and I’m pleased with the outcome 😺.

For the forensics club at school, I ran for a position in the executive board. I thought about running for Vice President of Cyber Security but found out it was an appointed position rather than an elected position and I wanted a position now. I changed my mind last minute and decided to run for External Vice President but ended up winning a position in Vice President of Communications & Secretary instead. I’m actually happy with my new position in the e-board because I believe I can do more with this position at my own pace. So far, I’m taking on the job of creating a layout for their club’s site. My goal for the time being is to make our site the cleanest and best-looking one out of the 4 CIS clubs on campus ;).

On Thursday night, I went to see The Avengers 2 with my boyfriend. We wore matching Avengers shirts and the theater was packed! I really enjoyed the movie because it was action-packed and had a handful of humor. I remembered the first time I watched the first Avenger movie was back in 2012. What I’m trying to say is, possibly another 3 years for the next Avenger movie is too long!!!

Professor: Who’s your favorite Avenger?
Me: If you can put Tony Stark’s brain inside Captain America’s Body, that’d be great 😹.

The evening after, my boyfriend and I went to his engineering club’s banquet (even though I’m technically a member too, I still refer it to his because he’s primarily involved with it). It was at a country club nearby and the scene from the back looked amazing so we decided to have our official banquet picture there ;).

PS. This week, I had the honor to be featured on Georgie’s 2 Minutes and 40 Seconds Interview. Check it out!

I’m so glad your workshop went well! It’s good when you make some impact on people, especially in fields like cybersecurity 😀

And woot for being the VP! Will you be sharing your finished layout when you’re done? I’ve no doubt you will make an awesome layout!

Seems like everyone is watching the new Avengers film but me XD I’m not into that kind of movie much, so I haven’t joined up in the fun. I also love how you and your boyfriend wore matching shirts! That’s a common thing with Korean couples here ^^

Also, that photo of you and your boyfriend and that backdrop . . . *______* SO PRETTY. That’s really a gorgeous location!

I need to watch the Avengers movie soon, but my boyfriend has already deemed it unworthy of viewing. What a jerk >__> personally, I like Hawkeye the most and I hate how he’s so underused and underappreciated. I really dislike what they did with him in the first movie, like that was just absolute garbage :/

I wish I recognized that country club but alas XD

No no no no Avengers 2 is not unworthy!! There’s a lot of little scenes that make the whole movie awesome!! But I agree, Hawkeye should be used more, especially with his awesome archer abilities! But you’ll be pleased with the 2nd movie ;).

And Via Verde Country Club 😀

I’m glad your workshop went well! That sounds like a cool activity to do. I hope some of them look into cyber security more, now that you’ve piqued their interest.

Congrats on winning the VP position! I bet you’ll make a great layout for them 🙂

I see Avengers 2 tomorrow. I really liked the first movie, so I hope this one is good too. I guess I’ll see soon!

You guys look great in that photo! 😀

I just read your post on Georgie’s blog ^^ I haven’t visited your blog for a while XD whoa, conducting a workshop makes me nervous! it feels different from teasching in my own class XD love your dress up there ^^

I can’t believe it’s May, as well! Really cool that you were able to do that workshop. It’s nice when students learn something they never thought would be interesting, but actually is.

Congratulations on your new position of Vice President of Communications & Secretary! Sounds super fancy 🙂

I’m going to see Avengers when I go away to new York. I actually cannot wait – I was going to watch it here, but it seems cooler somewhat to watch it abroad. Also, I really want to see what American cinemas are like compared to UK ones.

Aw, you guys look amazing, and what a view!

I also saw Avengers this weekend! I thought it was a lot of fun if you don’t read too much into it. My favorites are definitely Captain America and Black Widow. XD Loved their friendship in The Winter Soldier!

    Hey Nancy!

School involvement keeps me from getting bored and bogged down with my studies. It is so enjoyable. Keep getting involved! 🙂

My school Boise State University is offering an REU this summer in Cyber Security. It is a paid research opportunity in the summer with room and board. I am not sure of the deadline but it might be interesting. 🙂

I am so jealous that you have an Engineering banquet away from the school. My College of Engineering needs to get on that. You two looked lovely by the way over the scenic overlook. 😀

Glad your workshop went well! I went to school for computer engineering and I remember I had to design a game for high schoolers as a midterm project in one of my classes. I thought it was pretty awesome, but the high school class that tested our games said mine was too “cutesy” 🙁 That was the point! Ha, I guess not all teenagers are into kawaii stuff like I was from high school to, I guess currently.

That country club looks gorgeous! It’s awesome you’re getting more involved in school happenings. Some of my best memories from college come from different clubs and academic events.

Avengers 2 was AWESOME! I loved it!

Cute picture of you and your boyfriend, and I’m right with you on the whole time flying thing. What the heck happened to April? I know it was here and now, it isn’t. Life really flies by when you get older, you know?

  10. Kya ☆ May 11, 2015 at 11:06 pm

I am glad it went well with the presentation and you were able to teach them something and that some of them even had an interest in it! 😀

That’s great you became a member of the club, I wish you the best with making the design. I am sure that it will look the best!

The photo looks so lovely. 😀

I used to want to be involved in lots of things at school and work but it is crazy how fast things pile up. I am glad you had that opportunity in the end, though. 😀 I am always afraid of presentations, and I haven’t done any at work, but my boyfriend has done heeeeeeeeaps and is so good. I‘m proud of you that you were able to do that confidently!

I don’t really watch many movies but glad to hear you guys got so pumped for the Avengers. 😀

You guys look great together! I hope you liked dressing up for the occasion :3 :3 :3

“I’m finally getting involved in school” – as far as i remember, you’re always so involved with school!! participating in this and that!! you’re proactive it’s frustrating LOL

omg you led a workshop! that’s amazing. that’s an elite level of advancement there (idk what i’m saying) you must be a tech genius, sobs.

at first when i read forensics, i thought it’s the medical forensics but realize that’s impossible, lol. i’m stupid.

ah, avengers. i watched it twice even though i’m not a huge fan of it. like i said, the avengers members solo movies are much better, especially captain america winter soldier – it’s still the best movie in avengers arc, judging from its storyline and actions / combat. avengers 2 was better than the first one, of course but it’s still too gimmicky 🙁
lol i’m sorry, i didn’t mean to bash. it’s a fun movie in a gimmicky way.

Ok ok, maybe I should’ve said, “I’m finally doing something and making changes!!” because I would go to club meetings and that’s it. I need to up my level for public speaking before going to that total elite status!! Give me like 10 years to perfect it before my youth runs out!!!

      But Captain America’s body doe ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Nice job with the position and the job! I’m sure you’ll have more fun and experience under your belt from creating your layout. You’re going places with your life! So much so, the beautiful weather is reflected in your photo.

Oh California weather, how I wish to experience thee.
