More Rice ‘n’ Stuff
May 16, 2014

After trying out bibimbap (mixed rice) from Korean BBQ a couple of months ago, I was on a journey to find a restaurant nearby that also serves bibimbap. I had a few restaurants to choose from and I picked the one with the best quality + quantity ratings. It was a 10-minute drive from school (mostly due to the red lights). Anyways, I ordered the bibimbap to go; and in case you don’t know what it is, it’s a “Korean dish with mixed with assorted vegetables and meat.” (The rice was buried under all of the toppings.)

That was the plate before I mixed all of the elements together. Think of Chinese fried rice, everything is almost evenly mixed and this dish is no different (as far as the mixing goes). It tasted really good and I got no complaints :3. I want to come again before the semester ends, but we’ll see. I have a bucket list of places in town I want to try out.

Yes, I am at it again with the “sushi bowl”. I like the sushi bowl because it saves time since you don’t have to roll it. Just toss everything into a bowl and you’re good to go! This time around, I added in yellowtail sashimi because I wanted something new in the combination. At first, I wanted to add in tuna except there were 3 choices and I didn’t know which one to pick. I will eventually move into “expanding” this bowl with more assortments so stick around :P.

As far as school goes…..

  • Less than 2½ weeks until finals week! But less than 3½ for the semester/school year to be over ☺.
  • I’m not in danger of failing any classes but I’d like to do ~good~ in all of them.
  • I have been avoiding calculus for years and it became my favorite class.. Mostly because I’m really social in that class I finally understand the materials being taught.
  • I finally fulfilled the requirements as a member in the honor society. (Though the seals wouldn’t matter after this semester *_*)
  • I thought I was going strong in avoiding coffee but I caved in this week because I thought a latte and decaf is perfect for the heat. (Don’t mind the logic)
  • No night classes = happiness.

I might go for ‘Mediterranean’ food next week. We’ll see where my appetite goes :P. Aside from that, have a great week~

I’ve been hearing “Bibimbap” almost everywhere these couple of weeks but only now do I found out what it actually is. Haha! It looks really mouth-watering esp the beef, egg and beansprouts (my fave!) *_* Gives me the healthy impression too with that much greens in it!

And yum sashimi all the way! If I could eat sashimi everyday, esp salmon, I totally would! Haha.

All the best with your finals too! That bit about the coffee and logic made me laugh hahaha! I personally wouldn’t think of coffee on a hot day but you know.. if it floats your boat then why not 😉 Haha!

Have a great weekend Nancy! 🙂

BIMBIMBAP! 😀 One of my favourite dishes. It’s so simple and yet so delicious. I could never get tired of eating it. But, but . . . why was it served on a plate?! Real bibimbap are meant to be served in a bowl since we have to mix and mash and smush everything together! *pouts*

I’ll stop being a Korean food snob, haha! But anyway, I’m glad you’re trying it more! You need to find a bibimbap place that serves it piping hot in a stone bowl. That gives it a more of a “crunch” and more foreigners I know prefer that over the ones served in a regular non-cooking bowl.

And congrats on the honour society! Which one is it? Curious mind wants to know! 🙂 Good luck with the rest of your semester!

Bibimbap is one of my favorite dishes! I always get the dolsat version which comes in a sizzling stone bowl.

Ooh, your sushi bowl always looks good. I really like yellowtail. If I had to mix two together for a sushi bowl, I probably would have done salmon and yellowtail too, haha.

Good luck with all your classes!

I would like to try the Bibimbap without the meat & eggs, lol. It does look good though.

    Good luck with your finals.

Ah, I love bibimbap! I haven’t had it in a while though, your pictures just made me crave them real badly.

I honestly don’t recall trying a sushi bowl, but it looks good. Sadly, many sushi places in Houston have been disappointing, so it would take some time before I come across a worthwhile place in the similar flavor [let alone an actual sushi bowl].

You still have another 2 weeks left till the semester ends? I suppose different systems make various schools operate continuously. This is because my summer classes began already. I only had about a week off in between. Oh well, I suppose it’s better than having no break at all. 😛 I look forward to winter for that reason…And, I second the no night classes = happiness statement. I couldn’t agree more.

You’ve really got to stop making me hungry! Haha. It all looks delicious, especially that sashimi. Where do you buy your fish, btw? I’ve been wanting to make my own (raw) sushi at home, too, but I’m a bit paranoid about buying raw fish to eat just anywhere.

Congrats on the honors society! 🙂 You can always put it on a resume, right? & I tried to avoid coffee too… it is really hard (as you obviously already know).

I love bibimbap! Every time I go to a Korean restaurant, I have to get that. It’s definitely one of my all time favorites.
The sushi bowl looks so fabulous. It makes me want some right now!
The end is near! Just 2.5 weeks left, I hope all the best to you in your finals!

I went to a Korean restaurant a long time ago with friends and tried Bibimbap and loved it. It was great. Man, I’m jealous of the yummy food you’re eating ~

Yeah, I’m in the same mindset. I wanna do good in my classes too, no matter how it is. I’m glad you’re understanding calculus fully. It’s fun to understand math in general. It’s generally difficult as there are different rules and such, but I’m glad that you love it.

Yeah, Mediterranean food is LOVE <3 on my end really. Tried it and want to go back.

Glad you're doing good! I'm doing great!

I’ve never heard of a sushi bowl before, but it seems to be missing my favorite part—the seaweed! Also, bibimbap is my favorite thing to order at Korean restaurants. It is kind of like fried rice, but better (especially with the raw egg).

Is that an emoji I see in your post, or is it just me? Haha.

I’ve only had bibimbap on the plane to the Philippines, and whilst it was good I’m not sure it was authentic. I would really love to go to a Korean restaurant and try some, though. Looks delicious.

Good luck with your finals! I KNOW you’re gonna do well. Coffee is good in the heat! It actually cools your body down. I don’t know, but that’s what my mum told me and it’s why I’m always drinking tea even though it’s hella hot. It works for me, anyway.

I LOVE Mediterranean. Although I’m sure you know I love all sorts of food. There’s this really nice restaurant near me that does some yummy chicken dishes. Chicken shish is really nice, as is lamb. Oooh, if they have centik kebab you should try that – it’s chicken AND lamb with string potato and other stuff too. 😀

That bibimbap looks so delicious. I’ve heard a lot about it… but it’s to readily accessible here in India! For some reason, I’m not so fond of Sushi… I’m used to fish being deliciously marinated in spices and either fried or made into a curry.

Calculus is really fun. It was my favourite subject back when I was learning maths.
    What is the Honor’s Society?

Oh my goodness. I feel like every time I come to your blog there’s new restaurants you are trying and it makes me so hungry! The bibimbap looks like something that I actually might like! I’m not crazy about sushi or sashimi – even though it looks really good in the picture!

I hope your semester ends well! I’m so happy to finally be done. You can do it!! 🙂
