A&N Foodism: Orange Coast Winery

A+N Foodism is a blogging series about the food place(s) Nancy and her boyfriend (A+N) visited at a particular town or eatery. There may be multiple parts because the town is too big to have a complete roundup post in one go. Bon Appétit~

Last week, I was browsing through Groupon out of curiosity and found a sweet promotion on wine tasting at Orange Coast Winery in Newport Beach. Orange Coast Winery has a great reputation when it comes to customer service and award-winning wines! I purchased the Wine tasting for two with wineglasses and a gourmet cheese platter Groupon for 70% off the original value and redeemed it yesterday. My boyfriend and I always wanted to do some legit wine tasting and thought this was a great opportunity to start our journey off.

We each got to pick 6 wines to sample out of a list of 18. This was the perfect amount because I got to taste my favorites and try out different flavors without getting overwhelmed. My boyfriend’s favorite was the Albariño because of the flavor retainment and he bought a bottle to take home. Here are the wines I tasted:

  • Brut Rosé (rosé) – I liked how this was a bubbly drink
  • Pinot Grigio (white)
  • Endless Summer White Blend (white)
  • Muscat (white) – My favorite
  • Primitivo (red)
  • Sauvignon (red)

The platter had crackers, marcona almonds, jam, and the following cheeses: chevre goat, smoked gouda, gorgonzola, and pecorino romano. We really enjoyed eating the gorgonzola and smoked gouda cheese. This will be our go-to for our next wine pairing!

I’m a white wine type of person but I’m always willing to try out new things. A few weeks ago at work, a team I was working with had a big dinner with the client and the Partner gave me a quick lesson on red wines. I quickly discovered that I prefer lighter red wine (pinot noir) over the darker ones such as the merlot or cabernet sauvignon if I really had to choose.

The tasting room was a “stand-up bar” type of setting and had a little “gift shop” on the side. This winery has a subscription-based club where you pay a certain amount to enjoy some wine tasting with cheese on a bi-monthly basis. I like the concept of it but I’m not ready for this kind of commitment.

Overall, this was a great experience. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our drinks, cheese, and hospitality from the staff. We would definitely do some wine tasting again!

Wine tastings are a great way to figure out what you like! I used to think I didn’t like wine, but after doing some tastings in Napa, I’ve realized that I like young, sparkling wines. I enjoy Brut Roses too! Red is the one that I can’t seem to get into.

Yum, the cheese platter sounds like it had good stuff on it. I especially like chevre goat cheese. Gorgonzola and smoked gouda are good too!

I’m glad it was a good experience! 😀

That’s a real sweet deal for wine tasting, wine glasses, and a cheese platter at a very reputable place! 😀 It’s a fabulous deal, and it shows that it’s good to check sites like Groupon every once in a while!

I don’t know much about wines, but of your list, I’d love to have tried the rose one and all the white one including the Muscat. I’m more partial to white than red XD Good to know about the pinot noir. Next time I see that, I will try that instead of merlot or cabernet sauvignon. That cheese platter sounded awesome. The smoked gouda already got me, as well as the goat chevre 😀

This really sounds like a great experience. I am not big on wine, but I am trying it more nowadays since I figure those would be a lot healthier than cocktails XD; I know wine in moderation is supposed to be good for you :3 Thanks for sharing your experience!

Groupon always has the greatest deals don’t they? I’m glad you and your bf had a great time. The smoked gouda cheese sounds soooo good – I’m not even a huge fan of cheese xD

Wine tastings are something I really want to try someday! But the only thing holding me back is that between me and my bf, none us really drink wine. I did a mini sample tasting when I worked as a server but for the life of me… they all tasted the same??? Have you heard of the Malibu Wine Safari? I wanna go!

I don’t drink alcohol and don’t really have any desire to get drunk at bars or clubs, but I do wish that I appreciated wine so that I could do things like wine and cheese tastings 😛 It seems so classy ;D -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

Wine tasting sounds right up my street! I should have a look on Groupon as well to see if they have any similiar offers over here – it seems like so much fun AND there’s a cheese platter. YUM.

I prefer white over red, personally, and I absolutely adore rosé. My weakness is Pinot Grigio. I’m that person who goes to a pub and everyone’s got beer, and I’m just there with my Pinot like 👋🏾

The platter sounds amazing – gouda is gorgeous cheese!

Glad you and Adan had a great time! Looking forward to more of your adventures together 🙂

It took me about 30 years to try wine. Yeah, I know. My first experience was recently on my trip to Australia, when I visited Adelaide (wine country). I can’t drink much alcohol anymore due to health issues, but I enjoyed it.

I don’t drink wine, but I do love cheese! 🙂 And the platter looks oh so good! It’s amazing that you found such a good deal on Groupon, 70% off too! That’s a steal for such a great experience 😀

Whoa, I love the winery’s logo! Looks like you had an amazing time! I LOVE cheese plates (with or without wine, anytime) hehehe.

Groupon is such a great resource for fun date ideas on the cheap! You’ve convinced me to check Groupon for deals around my town!

    Thanks for sharing!

Wine tasting in general looks like a fun activity!

Since I’m not a fan of alcoholic beverages I don’t expect to be wine tasting anytime soon but would love to visit a vineyard and watch people do their wine tasting, haha!

I’m glad you were able to get out and try some new things. it’s even better that you were able to go to a nice place without having to pay full price and that you were able to try some new wines.

I’m looking forward to trying more wines when I’m of age in a couple weeks. The only wine I’ve had so far was a delicious watermelon wine that my friend got at a festival and was nice enough to share. It had a light pink color and it was flavorful. She said it didn’t have much alcohol as some other wines which was nice. I may have to go to one of those and expand my horizons a bit

How fun! This sounds like a fantastic date and exploration adventure with your boyfriend.

I love a good albarino! Aside from rose, they’re probably my default for whites. I can do a good cab if I’m eating steak or spaghetti. It’s so hard because I feel like for most wines, I need a good meal to balance it out otherwise I wouldn’t enjoy it as much.

aaay you so fancey, guuurl ♥

that must be such an awesome experience. i personally prefer other alcoholic beverage (mojito, black beer + root beer mix and pina colada) but not really wine. i love whiskey cola too but again, not wine. call me weird and not classy but wine never really intrigued me. maybe it’s because i haven’t came across the kind of wine that fits my tongue. at the same time, my bf can’t take alcohol haha he doesn’t like it. such a good boy who doesn’t – cannot – even drink 😛

I like checking Groupon once in a while too, I have found some gems on there! I remember snatching up a 60% off deal at this hair salon I always go to and end up spending £100+. Thankfully that time I got the deal, I spent less than 100! 🙂

I’m glad that you got to spend time with your boyfriend and bond over wine tasting! It sounds super cool! I’ve never done it myself but a lot of my friends have and always have recommended it. It is a good way to find your favourite! Glad you had fun! 😀

ALSO DAMN THESE PHOTOS THOUGH. SPOT ON.

Ooh, wine tasting! Very fancy and classy, I love it!
I’m not a fan of wine just because I haven’t really tasted that many types of wine.
I’ve only had mostly Sauvignon and a white wine I could not recall. But I would love to try more, especially the Brut Rosé! It seems like a fun drink.
I love hearing about you and your boyfriend’s food and drink adventures! And it’s so cool that you got a wine tasting promo on Groupon!

  15. Teesh ☆ May 28, 2017 at 7:17 pm

I want to go wine tasting too, mostly because I’m not the biggest wine fan. I think it may be because I haven’t tried one that I liked yet? And on wine and cheese nights with friends, I always end up eating more cheese than drinking more wine haha!
