Pre-Season, the C’s, and Grabs
October 13, 2013

This week, I participated in the pre-season assessment for the National Cyber League (a cyber security competition). Players are categorized by knowledge (bronze, silver, and gold)- demonstrated by their scores. The assessment included port scans, database identification, password hashes/hack for Linux and Windows users, XSS exploits, more exploits, web research, Wireless traffic analysis, and Wireless key hacks. I managed to snag 158th place out of 735. I’m hoping to be placed in the bronze/silver division because I’m not ready to go up against legit professionals (for now). It’s a learning experience and the next competition is on Saturday!

Evil Classes Starts with the Letter ‘C’
… And these classes are Chemistry and C++.
→ The class averaged a 1/10 in the most recent quiz. I didn’t do any better with a 4 (still a failing grade). The quiz we’re receiving back this week would probably have the same output. Despite of the many flaws exhibited by the professor-dude, I will still try my best in doing what I can to make achieving an A-grade a possibility. I usually invest 24 hours per week for chemistry soooo I should look into having a more efficient strategy for studying.
→ As for C++, I understand the basic concepts until I have to get creative with it. I’m currently stuck on a homework programming problem where I have to create a formatted multiplication table. I got the multiplication tables down except for the formatting part where I have to add lines to make it look like an actual table. If you know C++ and can help a sista out, let me know :D~ I will deeply appreciate it. In other news, there is an objective midterm exam on Wednesday and I should have that down one way or another.

Late September/Early October Grabs
I like shopping… Must I say anymore? With that said, here are a couple of stuff I bought in the past month. It’s not much in general but enough to satisfy my taste.

These scarves were from Hollister and bought for $7.50 each (original price: $25).

This bag was from Windsor Store… It wasn’t on sale but it was out of stock for a while. $50 bucks total with shipping *o*.

I’m satisfied with my purchases…. And hope to shop for more stuff whenever awesome-looking things are on the market.

On Friday, I cooked up a meal to eat with my boyfriend. Last week, I made cooked pan-seared salmon with prepackaged spices. This time, I pan-seared salmon again but with my own mix of stuff. It turned out to be delicious and worth the effort. We had leftovers which was cooked again later on the day and I added some “grilled” green onions and quesadillas (cheese tacos) on the side. Here’s a picture of it! Don’t mind the hookah (that *thing* on the top right corner). It belongs to the other peepz at the fraternity house :$.

What do you mean by creating a formatted multiplication table? Do you mean writing text to a file or printing onto the screen? I guess, it doesn’t matter either way.

I’m not sure how to make the lines appear, but I think that it’s a combination of:
    *columns are |
*rows are either underscores or rows of text that are solely made up of hyphens

I hope that you’ll do well on your Cyber Challenge!

omg, you sound like a genius to me! I did a little bit of coding when i was in uni but it wasn’t amazing and enough to enter competitions! Good Luck!

I hope you can get your grades up and be able to pass your classes 😀 go go go!

Food sounds yummy, I’m not as adventurous with cooking since I’m scared to burn or make horrible inedible food >_<

I remember doing some C++ stuff in university!! I was originally going to be doing computer science as my major but after 3 of those classes, I decided I couldn’t do it. It just wasn’t for me so KUDOS to you for keeping at it!! I admire that!!

I love looking at what people cooked! That meal looks delicious!!

I’m a bargain shopper too hahah. I joined this Buy & Sell thing on Facebook for my city/area and I find such GREAT deals on stuff. I also got this amazing purse for only $10 when it retailed $65. I love shopping too but only when I have the funds to do it hahaha. Being a grownup sucks.

Congrats on your place in the pre-season! That sounds like a good rank when there are so many people. Good luck on Saturday!

Wow, an average of 1/10 is pretty bad. So many people scoring that low makes me question whether the quiz was fair or not. I wish I could help on the C++ stuff! Unfortunately, I haven’t used C++ in um… 7 years or so? I used it in college, but I don’t need it for my job at all, so I’m super rusty.

I like how colorful those scarves are! And I love the bag! That is such a cute design, and I like that it’s black/white.

Salmon is a nice fish to cook 🙂 I like that you can keep it simple. I like baking it with green onions, olive oil, and lemon slices!

I know I’m late on this, but I hope the exam turned out well, and that things are progressing more smoothly now than they are a few weeks back. >.<

You have a wonderful taste. I love those colors and the bag looks pretty cute.

Haha, I was about to comment on that hookah. Good thing you addressed it before any confusion arises. The food looks good. I envy your skills.
