Adventure Time ft. San Diego Zoo
January 9, 2016

Last month, my boyfriend and I took a little drive down to the San Diego Zoo. Hurray for our second zoo trip together ?! This zoo is much nicer and bigger than the one in Los Angeles so the price is more than justified. We spent around 6 hours at the park and explored most of it. The few animals we missed were the giraffes and bears (mostly because I got tired of walking by that time). No worries, we can visit again once the zoo opens their expansion in 2017~

My favorite animals to visit are always the felines. It makes sense because I’m a total cat person (we are entitled to our own positive interests). The parrots were pretty fascinating to watch because they were sitting on their designated branches uncaged. It’s awesome that they’re so colorful too! If only I can paint them via watercoloring. My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to hear the lion roaring for a bit. He thought it was a recording until he saw the lion himself!

The coolest feature of the park is the Skyfari Aerial Tram. This is pretty neat because you can see the entire zoo from a high altitude even though you’re mostly seeing trees. It almost felt like I was in the Mickey’s Fun Wheel ride at Disney California Adventures 🎡We also sat through their 4D Theater where you watch a short clip and experience additional senses from the clip through touch and smell.

Overall, adventuring at the zoo was worthwhile. Some of the background stories behind the animals are interesting such as the 100+ year old tortoises, endangered pandas being saved, and how some insects are good for our ecosystem thanks to decomposing. The zoo has a program that tries to rescue and restore the population of endangered species.

We didn’t have a meal there but we shared a pretzel and churro. It tasted old and thankfully didn’t get either of us sick! We went to downtown San Diego for some clam chowder soup, shrimp peel ‘n’ dip, and crab nachos. San Diego kind of remind me of San Francisco because of the electric buses, with the exception of slightly better traffic.

That looks like such an awesome zoo to visit. I love to see animals, and usually make a point to spend more time with the giraffes because they are just so adorable. I would like to go to the zoo again, since I have a better camera (I think the last time I had a really old digital, not a DSLR).

That is really cool you heard the lion! 😀

    Wow the parrot looks beautiful!
I always wanted to go to San Diego zoo when I was a kid because I used to collect San Diego Zoo cards! I don’t even know why they were a thing here but the cards always made it seem like the best zoo ever!

Ooooh! I just read a zoo mystery book, and now I’m reading a blog post about zoo!

I’m glad this trip turned out to be worthwhile for you and your boyfriend! Even I’ve heard good things about San Diego zoos 🙂 I had to smile at the part where you mentioned about liking big feline animals because of your love for cat. It makes total sense!

I love the shot of the parrots! It turned out so nice! And the flamingoes! Awesome photo as well 😀

It sucks your snack tasted stale, but it sounds like you had a better meal in downtown San Diego ^^

Thanks for sharing your experience and your photos, Nancy! Now I want to go to a zoo and go look at polar bears, penguins, and seals!

I’ve always wanted to go that zoo, and other places in California, but alas, I haven’t yet. Glad you and the bf had fun ^^

San Diego is definitely one of the better museums in the so cal region. I haven’t been there in years though, I should go back once they finish with the renovations.

I give you the highest of high gives because you are a total cat person. Can you bring your cat when I come and visit? Kthnx.

Ahh, I’m glad you guys had an amazing time. Your outfit is so cute!

Such beautiful photos! And I had a peek on Instagram too. ? I wish there were more zoos around my area… or even that I can easily travel to. Alas, nope. I think the zoos in other countries are really nice, nicer than Australia’s!

I went to a museum in Hong Kong and the giant dinosaur statues had recorded voices, still very amusing though. Awesome you got to hear a lion roar for real!

I am so intrigued by flamingos. I love the photo you got of them! The photos look so bright and colourful, even that wind chime thing next to the bird (not sure what kind of bird it is).

Love the colorful photo of the parrot! I really like visiting zoos, especially ones with rescue programs. And I like visiting the felines too! Tigers are my favorite to look at 🙂 I’m glad you guys had a great time at the San Diego Zoo!

Sounds fun! I need to go back to the SD zoo.. I haven’t been there since I was a kid. I’d love to go back for a romantic date, hehe. Sounds like great exercise with all those hours of waling around too! Good to know they’re expanding in 2017, I’ll be interested in going hehe. I loooove birds, so I can imagine myself spending extra time gawking at the birdies 🙂 You and the bf look cute!

That looks like an amazing zoo to visit! I love the picture of the parrot – it’s so beautiful! I went to London zoo just over a year ago, but because it was winter half of the animals weren’t there. I saw some giraffes and alpacas though, which are two of the cutest animals!

Glad to hear you had a good time, shame about the old food!

Wow, sounds like a really nice time. I haven’t been to a zoo in ages! I’m not sure I even remember it except for the photo evidence I have. Now all these images are making me want to go.

What an adorable picture of you and your boyfriend! And a lovely photo of the Macaw too! 🙂

Looks like you had such an awesome trip! Yay for a 2nd trip with the bf! I can see why you would want to paint the parrot in watercolour, their beauty just pops right out. I’m in awe of technology these days. When you mentioned the Skyfari, I thought of Jurassic World for some odd reason, it just reminded me of it!
