Feeling a Bit Spontaneous
June 21, 2015

Sometimes, a spontaneous adventure or two is needed whether it’s big or small. I felt like I needed one of these to clear my mind from a busy quarter and transition to summer break… Or not so much of a summer break because I’m interning full time at the same place. Initially, I had trouble adjusting to working the full 8 hours every day but I’m getting the hang of it now.

A couple of Thursdays ago, my boyfriend and I felt a bit spontaneous after finishing our last final. We started our spontaneous adventure by going to the mall down the freeway to look around and bought some random stuff (including an awesome bath bomb from Lush). After finishing our visits to some shops, we had dinner at Red Lobster where I ordered a bowl filled with mini lobster tails, clams, and shrimp on top of linguini. We went to Target afterwards to buy some containers and decided to go to Downtown Disney from there just ’cause. Initially, I wanted to be as spontaneous as going to Disneyland itself but didn’t have enough impulse to actually carry it through. Instead, we settled for the downtown part for more shopping at the Lego and World of Disney stores. This whole trip took up the entire evening and it was totally worth it.

Last Monday after my birthday, we had a beach day at Huntington Beach. I wanted to spend time with my boyfriend one last time before he moves to the east coast for the next three months. Instead of building a sand castle, we ended up digging a hole big enough where we could sit together and watch the ocean waves. We went to get splashed around in the water for a bit until one of the lifeguards warned people to not go too deep into the waves. Afterwards, we went to the Longboard Restaurant for some food. I ordered half dozen oysters, an oyster shooter, and a Hawaiian Tea Mix drink. The waitress was a bit confused when she saw my ID and was trying to count the years since 1994. We ended up getting our drinks on the house, which was awesome and it’s a plus because it was my first legal alcoholic drink ;). As for “dessert”, we went next door for some funnel cake.

More mini adventures:

  • Went back to my high school for one last BBQ before the band director left to teach at another school.
  • Test drove a 2015 Mustang and it was awesome. Too bad I didn’t have the intention to buy a Mustang on the spot so I couldn’t drive the V8 option… But it was still awesome. The interior was a lot better than what I expected so it looks like I upped my criteria to a 6th generation model when it comes time to actually buy a new car ;).
  • Went for an uni bowl run twice in one week before moving back home in LA (since it’ll be my last before moving back to school in the fall)!
  • It took one full truck and sedan to move all of my belongings from my school’s apartment to parent’s home.

Awww 🙁 I’m sorry to read that your boyfriend is moving to the east coast for a few months! That’s a long time, but at least it’s not like a year or something! Now that would really be long! Still, though, it’s good you guys got a chance to go on some spontaneous adventures 😀 I don’t mind those so much, but not all the time!

I like how you went to the Lego and Disney store! That sounds pretty cool! Would love to check those stores out myself 😀

And it took that much to move your stuff from your dorm to home? Makes me wonder just exactly how much stuff you had, haha! ^^

Good luck with working 8-hour shifts! Those are tiring, but it beats working a 12-hour split shift! I’ll definitely take the 8-hour one over that 😀

School is finally out for you! YAY! Hope you have a nice long summer! Hopefully the time also goes by fast so you can see your boyfriend soon.

Spontaneous adventures are the best, my boyfriend and I try to do them often, its hard here through because we run out of activities quite fast, however if I was more into food I would never run out of different ones to try here. I love Disney, I have been to Disney World twice. The downtown Disney is really nice through and now that you are legal I am sure you would really enjoy the evening events they have.

I think that would be the annoying thing about living on campus, having to move all your stuff. I would get tired of it really easy.

I’ve been working 8 hours a day for the past two months after school was out for me, two more months to go, and then back to school. Have fun with work though while it lasts!

Spontaneous days out are the best. It’s great that you are getting to spend time with your boyfriend before he moves away for three month. Long distance relationships can be an interesting challenge, and I believe can make you value each others company even more.

I remember moving home from summer after my first year in halls, trying to fit everything in once car. It wasn’t fun being squashed against the window with a TV on my lap for an hour and a half!

About an earlier post: I pass by Ootoro sometimes and have always been curious about it! It’s really close to where I live, about three streets away, and it never struck me as a fancy place. It doesn’t really look it. The more you know! ;D maybe I’ll go with my family one day, but I don’t think I have the balls to try omakase.

(I will never get used to the fact that we’re basically in the same area, like what if I see you and recognize you?! What do I do?!)

That’s an awesome opportunity he has, although I know you will miss him. 🙂

Oooh you live really close by then! Premium chirashi bowls go for like 35 bucks a pop. Regular is 22 ;). We should meet one day XD. Or if you ever see me at H Mart, you should say hi!

It’s hard having a super flexible school schedule and then having to work full time the same hours every day. At least it is for me! Even though I worked a lot during school, I still felt like schedule was flexible and now not so much. :/

Spontaneous and unplanned adventures are usually the best kind. 🙂 Especially when free drinks are involved! Happy belated birthday Nancy!

Ooo your spontaneous adventures sound so fun! I wish I could do more of that as well. I hope so, at least, this summer or something. I also would love to spend more time with my friends ^_^ It’s so great that you were able to do that with your boyfriend!

The food you had also seem really interesting. It’s not what I would usually order, but maybe I need to get out of my comfort zone. I’ll keep it in time next time I can get something exotic on my plate c:

The shopping day and beach day sound fun 🙂 I kind of feel like it’s more fun to dig holes in the sand than to make sand castles because that’s what we always do too, haha.

Yum, I love raw oysters, and the uni bowl looks delicious too. I’m glad you had a couple adventures before starting your summer break!

    Oh my goodness <3

I'm sorry to hear your bf is leaving for 3 months, but, remember this will make you guys stronger and make your hearts fonder for each other. That's how it happened with me and my husband. <3

I so, want to go to the beach, but swimming at a pool will do for now, since I'm all sunburned. Hahaha

Good luck working and if you ever need anyone to talk to, anyone, as you've been a great friend and a great help with my moving hosts, I'm here for you =)

I think I’m mentally prepared for the most part. There are a couple of instances where my mind wonders off to some weird realm of no return and somehow returned ;). Aww, you’re so sweet! Thank you, Michelle ♥~

Bath bombs from Lush are exactly that… lush. Haha. Agreed that we definitely need some spontaneity in our lives. I hope to get away for a weekend, soon! I wish I could go to Downtown Disney just ’cause.

I feel like your first legal alcoholic drink is the best one. And then it just gets even better after that. Your food always looks so delicious D:

Spontaneous trips are awesome! XD They really do invigorate you. I haven’t been to Disneyland in a long time. I’m not sure I’ve been to Downtown Disney but I’m sure it was a lot of fun. 😀

Sounds like an awesome time! Honestly would be my perfect way to spend a week in the summer. Unfortunately my works busy season is the summer. Hope you got some needed relaxation!
