A Step Up the Ladder
November 8, 2014

I’m done with week 6 of the quarter! 4 More weeks to go plus finals week and I will be done for the term! I’m liking the quarter system a lot better than semester because everything goes by quicker and I don’t feel burnt out that way. As far as grades go, I feel like I’m doing well in my classes and hopefully it stays that way. The atmosphere of the school is great except I don’t have the energy to do extended socializing *-* (like going to socials or even joining a sorority). So far in the quarter, the only caffeinated drink I had is a can of Monster and had no all-nighters (yay).

My winter quarter registration appointment was on Tuesday morning. Even though the office clerks for CBA lost my pledge papers for priority registration, I still got into a couple of classes I need with one being on the wait list. Hopefully things will pull through *o*. I’m looking forward to the winter because these are some of the core classes for my major. Here’s the set of classes I registered for so far:

  • Database Design and Development
  • Business Telecommunications
  • Intermediate Java Programming for Business (WL)

Aside from all of the busy schoolwork, I tried having some sort of entertainment pushed into my schedule. I recently got into watching Flash, Gotham, and Arrow. Felicity Smoak quickly became my idolized character annnd these shows are great for distractions in boring classes with mandatory attendance ☺.

Here are some food-stuff of the week worth mentioning about:

  • Put together a platter of sushi-grade salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and ikura prepared by the Japanese market on Sunday.
  • Finally bought soybean paste to make ~legit~ miso soup and udon at the village (apartments).
  • “Meat of the week” was bulgogi and had it with rice for a couple of days.
  • Went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch with a friend on Thursday and ordered a plate of stir-fried squid.
  • The group project team for my CIS class had a “bonding meeting” at Jazz Cat on Thursday night at 10pm.

Yesterday, I found out I got a mini promotion at work! I’m excited because the president and my department’s vice president are really pleased with the work I’m doing and would love me to stay working for the company. This means I will have to step up my game at work and get more projects in the IT department completed. Hurray for more resume-building items!

    I’m glad you find the quarter system to be better than the semester ones. In uni, I did terms (8 weeks or sometimes 8 weeks crammed into 7 weeks X_X) and in grad school, I did semesters (16 weeks or 10 weeks for the summers), so I think it depends. The terms were like trying to cram 16 weeks of info into 8 week, but at the same time 16 weeks of info for 16 week does make for a super long time. X_X;

Anyway, I hope you get your next quarter classes all straightened out 😀 Your class list so far looks like something I’d run away from, but obviously not for you 🙂

And woot for bulgogi! And the miso paste 😀 I want to get some, but I’m afraid I’ll never use it after a couple of time, haha!

Lastly, congratulations on the mini-promotion! You’re on a right track with them, and I’m glad your employers like you and you like them, etcetera 🙂 Keep it up, girl!

I’m glad school is going well! I think I only pulled an all nigher once or twice, haha. Once was for an Operating Systems project and another was for a paper that was due at 8am. I hope you’ll get into your waitlisted class!

Yum for miso soup and udon. I had a lot of those while in Japan. Tasty stuff 😀

Congrats on your promotion! That’s great that you’re doing so well at work!

It’s so nice to be excited to learning haha, it’s been a very long time since I felt that way! I hope you do enjoy them 🙂
Congrats on the promotion! It’s always wonderful to have your hard work recognized. IT department may be the few departments where hard work (efficient and correctness) can be recognized. Keep it up 😀

    Congrats on your promotion, Nancy!
You have really cool core subjects… I will be taking Database management and java from next semester, I guess, though I have learnt it all in graduation! 😀

Good Luck with the rest of this quarter and next quarter 🙂 Congrats on the job promotion.

How are you liking Gotham so far? I’ve been trying to catch up, I’ve missed a few weeks of it.

Congratulations on the mini promotion! You must have seriously impressed. It will look great on your resume.

I know the feeling. I get in from uni, eat and then go to bed. No time for friends. 🙁 It’s tough.

I watched the first episodes of all three of those DC tv shows but I haven’t watched the rest. I need to do some serious catching up.

I’ve learned I can’t trust anyone at work, especially those in authority positions 😡

The offices seem to have a tendency to lose important papers. Maddening. My last quarter there I was only taking one grad class, so I went from full-time to part-time and that meant my financial aid had to be adjusted. So that took forever and it got to the point where I could potentially be dropped from my class due to lack of payment.

So I took a guess as to how much I had to pay out of pocket, and la-di-da, the very next day my adjusted financial aid was disbursed. Stinkers.
