Summer So Far [Part I]
July 11, 2015

Summer so far has been pretty busy for me mostly because of work. I’m happy with my work schedule, despite the fact that it leaves little room to do anything significant after coming home. Sometimes, I feel like doing nothing and other times, I feel the need for spontaneous adventures (I almost planned out a trip to Cancún). At the end, I realized I just need to do different things that will keep me busy during the 100 days of summer.

  • A few weeks ago, I finally caved in and bought The Crew. It’s a racing game where you travel across the country completing jobs and missions by racing. The game is similar to Need For Speed but it’s more detailed and the storyline is much longer. I accidentally bought a season pass so I got a bunch of free cars. Even then, I’ve only used the Camaro SS and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG as my main cars within the game. This is probably a hint for me to eventually get these cars in real life 😼.
  • While a friend is out of country for a month or so, I became a housekeeper who drops by once in forever. When I do drop by, I do some yard work for funsies because it’s a huge mess. I managed to get rid of 90% of the wild “branches” growing from the cracks on the floor and it’s a huge improvement already. “I’ve got a house out in the hills right next to Chino” -Snoop Dogg 😹
  • I had to take a day off from work the other week to attend a workshop to get the forensics club registered. It was pretty much a waste of time since all of the information was online. On the bright side, at least some of my e-board friends were there, I got to work on my food blog’s layout (the sprints are live as I go along), and finished the day off by eating pizza with my friend.
  • To fulfill more e-board duties, I have to give a presentation about our club to students at the orientation sessions. “Our club focuses on forensics, cyber crime, and cyber security. We have three different methods to achieve our mission. […]” How “official” do I need to sound?!
  • I went to a tea shop with a friend the other Sunday afternoon for chrysanthemum tea, popcorn chicken, fries, dumplings, and golden fish balls.
  • I bought tickets to go to Escape Halloween (a music festival) with my boyfriend and his sister. I love listening to EDM and have been wanting to go to a festival for years. Even though people have a bad impression about these types of events, the organization has a policy to aim to make the environment safe and unfortunately, there are some irresponsible people who manage to get away with breaking the policy (in a nutshell). Well, this will be a fun and clean event for us 😺.
  • My coworkers and I tried fried frog legs and quail for the first time during lunch. The taste and texture was interesting but I wouldn’t have it again. It’s good to try out new things and if it’s not something you like, let it be.
  • I’m in the process of learning some basic iOS application development for fun. I think the logic from Java, C#, and C++ can carry on to Objective-C and Swift. I want to have a development project over the summer whether it’s through Swift or C#. I’m not looking to become a software developer in the future but it’s good to have options.

That covers what has happened so far that I can remember from the top of my head. I’m hoping more things will pick up as time passes by, but the break is still young.

I’m glad your summer is going well so far! What hours are you working? Working full-time hours definitely can make you just want to come home and do nothing!

The Crew sounds like a game perfect for you 😀 I know cars is a big interest of yours!

That tea shop you went to . . . I did a double-take upon seeing what food you got at a tea shop! Of all things, I’d never have guessed popcorn chicken, fries, dumplings, and fish balls with tea. I’d expect cake or rice cake or something, haha!

And yeah, that frog legs and quail meat . . . good on you for trying it, at least! I’m not certain if I’d try it LOL.

How long is your break till? I hope you can do some travelling or staycationing or something other than work! You deserve a day or two there for that 😀

Working Monday-Fridays 8a-5p :(. No time to do anything significant *~*. My break is until almost the end of September XD. I need to mentally push myself for a vacation!!

Haha, you should be gone through with the trip to Cancun! Did you do it accidentally, Nance? Did you really?

I could really do with some popcorn chicken, right now. Or any sort of fried chicken. Just CHICKEN.

EDM is pretty cool. It’s such good music to jam too. I love it. I have a whole playlist of EDM. A few years ago, I wouldn’t have guessed I’d be into it.

I remember when my family and I visited the Philippines a few years ago, and my mum tricked my sister into eating frog legs and then my sister cried when she found out she was eating frog legs. She couldn’t trick me, though. Lol.

That’s nice of you to look after your friend’s house and to do some of the yard work! Yard work is probably my least favorite chore, haha. I think it’s because our yard is way too big. (Why did we get a corner lot???)

I hope the presentation at the orientation sessions go well, and have fun at the music festival! I feel like the preparation of certain meats matter a lot. When my mom makes frog legs or quail, they just remind me of little pieces of chicken 🙂 I can see how they’re not for everyone though. At least you tried them!

I’ve been interested in learning how to make iOS apps. I have an idea for one, but I never make time to actually do it. I hope you’ll figure out a development project to do!

Oh btw, I nominated you for a Liebster Award over at my blog!

When I was a kid I used to eat frog legs. In the Chinese dialect my family speaks, “frog” translates literally into “water chicken,” so whenever the dish was ordered at restaurants they told us it was “water chicken legs.” Being a kid, I thought it was some breed of chicken. I was furious when I found out it was actually frog. Now I don’t eat it at all, nor do I eat quail. Pigeon seems to be getting more popular at Chinese restaurants and my dad really loves ordering it (mostly because it’s expensive), but I won’t eat it either.

I’m sort of curious which tea shop you went to. The only one I’m aware of in my area is apparently not that good.

Woah, I didn’t know they have pigeons in restaurants now. I would assume pigeons are cheaper because they’re everywhere! I wouldn’t eat pigeons for sure. I went to Ten Ren, though the one on Valley/Grand is the one I like. I haven’t been to the other ones before. I like Half & Half but they’re always crowded!!

Wowza, you are super gutsy for trying both of those food items! 🙂 I’m vegetarian, but even then I can be weary about trying new fruits or vegetables (jackfruit for one…). Good for you for being on the e-board for your club. That’s an awesome gig! Are you off from other school duties for the summer?

    • Nancy ☆ July 15, 2015 at 2:35 pm

Jackfruit is delicious! I love to eat it, except you can’t eat it first thing in the morning (or on an empty stomach) or else you will have a stomach ache :(. Tropical fruits can look a bit weird, but it’s definitely tasty! If you want to be weary about something, try durian ;).

A lot of logic generally transcribes well between languages. I go back and forth between PHP and Ruby, and usually what I learn in one, I can apply in the other. XD

Good luck with your iOS app tinkering! I have a few Rails apps that I still need to finish, ugh. Blogging takes up too much of my free time.

Glad your summer is going well so far! That’s a lot that is happening, but the important thing is to take out time and enjoy every little moment. Alas, it’s all good.

Accidentally? Lol You’re too cute ^^ Yard work and even doing dishes is my least favorite thing to do for chores, but I can do dishes, not so much yard work.

You’re a great friend for doing that and looking after something for another friend. I’ve never had quail or frog legs, so I bet it was interesting to taste.

I just wouldn’t eat it. I’m so picky with food. Lol
