The Season of Thanks
November 22, 2012

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, whether you celebrate it or not. There is nothing wrong to dedicate a day to reflect on what you’re thankful for, right? And for those who don’t celebrate this holiday in the United States, at least Black Friday is tomorrow… Or tonight for some major retailers. I believe that these major retailers are ruining the event of a “Thanksgiving Dinner” by starting their “doorbuster deals” as soon as 8 pm. Even though there might be plenty of time to prep up for the sales of Black Friday, the anxiety of, “We need to hurry up with dinner because there is a massive sale at Walmart.” comes into play. An alternative solution to comply with the early deals is to schedule your Thanksgiving dinner to an earlier time frame which wouldn’t be considered to be an actual dinner anymore.

I have nothing in mind to buy for Black Friday even though I’m still probably going to end up at the mall regardless. But for the past three years, I found my way into Hollister and bought some clothes there. If it happens again this year, I wouldn’t be surprised… If there is anything worth buying. I probably won’t buy anything, but who knows?

Even though we should be thankful every other day, this is a day set to really “recognize” what we are most thankful for. Come to think of it, I never made a post about what I am thankful for before. There is a first time for everything.

I am thankful for being in a moderately healthy family with no constant stress about health problems. Despite the fact that my parents set ridiculously über high standards for me, I’m still thankful in a sense that things could have been worse since I didn’t meet all of them. I am also thankful that no major family drama currently exist.

I am thankful for having a wonderful boyfriend who is the sweetest person I know. I am delighted to be in a loving relationship filled with happiness and joy. I am really grateful for everything that my boyfriend has done for me. Speaking of which, we celebrated our four months last night at a sushi bar and I had a lovely time ^_^. I believe that every moment counts and you should make the best out of it.

I am thankful for having genuine friends. What makes a friend genuine? I believe if a person simply looks out for others, wishes for the best, is supportive for the right reasons and does their part in being a friend, that makes them genuine. If someone I know meets all of those standards whether we talk often or barely at all, they’re a genuine friend. That doesn’t mean they’re my best friend or anything. I am appreciative of the people who have been there for me when I’m happy, feeling hopeless, bitter, and even content. Even when someone I don’t often talk to “writes” a random meaningful post on my Facebook wall, it makes my day.

I am thankful for having delightful “band kids”. I probably set the example and mentor these band kids to the best of my ability when it comes to giving advice, helping them out, supporting them, motivating them, and being a friend. Not only that, these kids encourage and motivates me for the better. I think it’s cute how they refer to me as their “band mom”.

I am thankful for having the opportunity in participating in the marching band and wind ensemble while being in the band’s leadership these past few years. My band director not only taught me how to enjoy creating music, he also taught me how to be a better person with the lectures he gave me from time to time. I had a life-impacting experience being in the band because a lot of skills came out of it. There were moments in band when I faced situations that didn’t look too good and that’s perfectly normal. Overall, I really enjoyed being in band.

I am thankful for the bloggers who comments and visits this blog from time to time. Comments do have some nice impact when it comes to brightening your mood. I have been blogging for over 5 years and it has been an interesting experience. I believe people do gain positive benefits from blogging such as communication skills, language skills, social skills, you name it!

Lastly, I am thankful for being healthy, having a home to live in, having food to eat, having the excess things that I possess, having an ability of some sort to play music, and everything else that makes me who I am. I believe that things happen for a reason and life probably did set up an interesting route for me to follow. All I can say about that is… Challenge accepted.

I do have more things that I am thankful for which isn’t listed within this blog post. And for those who are interested, I am hosting a domain giveaway. One simply entry gives you a chance of winning and the more, the merrier. Since this is the season of giving, please do keep in mind that if you own a domain, there are those out there who don’t.

Happy Thanksgiving Nancy! I don’t know whether we celebrate it or not in Malaysia, but it’s Thanksgiving! We thankful to the God, to everyone for what we have now. Anyway, it’s great to have a happy family. Where we can share our joys, laugh together, wiping our tears. It’s all part of becoming a true family. And, it’s also great of having our couple besides, and you must be really thankful for that ;). I hope both of you are always happy together until both of you engaged! 🙂

    Good luck with the giveaway!

Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I hope you and your family will have more reason to be thankful!

I have a list of thanks too but I always do them with a prayer at night. For all the good and bad things that happened to me, I’m always thankful because everything comes with a reason. Some of them might be bad for now, but eventually, they will bring good news too.

You are the sweetest thing ever. I’m, like, almost in tears over here, It’s good that you’re grateful for so much. It’s because you’re so nice and kind that people want to do things for you, and bring you up even more. 😀 Proud of you Nance. +teleports away+

Happy Thanksgiving, Nancy :)) I sometimes wish we celebrated Thanksgiving but I guess any day is a good day to be thankful.

You’ve got a wonderful boyfriend and wonderful friends and being surrounded by such positivity is such a gift. Congratulations on your monthsary <3

It feels wonderful to be a role model for younger people and I'm glad those band kids love you so much! You deserve to be recognised that way because you were so dedicated in band. 😀 I can play several musical instruments myself and I'm totally thankful for that.

You don't really have to thank me for dropping by and leaving comments, it's no problem AT ALL… but either way, I am also thankful for yours, and I know just how you feel in that position. 🙂

Hope you get some new clothes… we have nothing like Black Friday in Australia so you can do Black Friday shopping for both of us! HA 😀

I’m struggling with some of my courses. But I think I’ll be OK. I’m only a Freshman in University though, so the school work has only just begun! Haha. I’m going to do my best with the website, and to support the domain giveaway. But I still have two more tests and two more projects before study week. 🙂

I think it’s sad that our consumer culture can change historical traditions like Thanksgiving, but then again didn’t this same culture create Valentines day? I’m not totally sure, but everyone just says it’s a Hallmark holiday to sell flowers, chocolates, and cards. Props to the marketing mind behind that if it’s acutally true. That being said, I like how you brought up unmaterialistic things to be thankful for.

    Congratulations on the anniversary too!

At my school, I LOVE the band. I have so much respect for each member, and I get so into it when they rock so hard all the time. Band is the coolest and I wish I was in it, no joke. I hate that I’m a musical fail in all regards except for musical appreciation. I think my school takes the band super seriously. You guessed my school correctly btw 🙂 I would be weirded out but since you live in SoCal, I’m not that worried haha. They way you talked about it though seems like you don’t go here too?

Happy Thanksgiving to you too Nancy!

    Take Care!

I’m thankful that I’ve alive and happy with my life overall. 🙂 I ate so much during Thanksgiving, but I think I’ve eaten less this year’s Thanksgiving compared to last year’s. My family didn’t rush to eat just to go Black Friday shopping, but we did end up going shopping after dinner. I seriously didn’t know what to buy, but I ended up buying pajamas, DVDs, and video games. It was pretty fun; this was the first time I went shopping right on Thursday night to early Friday morning.

What a sweet post 🙂 It sounds like you’re living in a good, positive environment with supporting friends, bandmates, boyfriend, family, etc. And you certainly don’t take any of them for granted.

    Happy thanksgiving!

You know, I have never been Black Friday shopping. My mother has some very vehement anti-Black Friday opinions, and I guess I have never asked anyone if I could join in. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I don’t know if the sales are worth the crowds.

You have a lovely list of things to be thankful for. xP I am thankful for you and your lovely comments and blogs.

My views this month aren’t bad. I made some new resources (i.e. textures), and now my views are at a high. November might turn out to be my busiest month yet. Maybe if I’m active I can generate even more. I’m kind of blessed because CCR has been around for such a long time, I can stay away for a bit and it won’t die COMPLETELY.

How are your classes going? They always seem so overwhelming at first, then you settle into a routine and they aren’t so bad. At least, that’s for me.

Yeah, I’ve been struggling with a friend over religion. She’s religious, but I’m not — which shouldn’t be a problem, but she’s very touchy over everything. Overly sensitive, I guess is a better way to describe it. She tried to tell us Christians were a minority . . . and my friends and I are like, “No, 1/3 of the planet is Christian, that’s not a minority.” So we argue about that, and then she starts saying we’re mad at her because of her beliefs. We “have a problem with her faith.” Gahh, it’s getting frustrating, especially because she’s so intolerant of other beliefs than her own. -shakes head-

My earliest class next semester is 11am! I am so excited. With how screwed-up my schedule is at the moment, I don’t know if I could do anything earlier than that.

Happy Thanksgiving! Awww. Your life’s wonderful and it’s something to be very thankful for.
I wish we also celebrated that here, reading blog posts about it makes me so jealous seeing all the foods, shopping sales and stuff, but even without that, everyday is a day that I am thankful for everything I have.
Happy 4th month to you and your boyfriend!
You are so lucky! I always wanted to know how to play music, but I always fail. I’ve tried several things but I guess playing music is not for me.
You deserve all that because you are honestly one of the kindest people I know. 😀

  12. Ivy ☆ November 24, 2012 at 9:00 pm

I’m thankful for having you as a friend! Even though I think I bother you a lot, you still don’t think so. : You’re a great person to talk to and for advice on tech too! Haha…

    Your forever annoying friend,
    Ivy

Happy Belated Thanksgiving! Remembering to be thankful can be hard to do. But since we live in a world that is consumed by its own lust for wants it is an important ideal to remember, to make us different for the better.

You definitely hit on the things we sometimes all take for granted. I agree, it is important to enjoy every moment you have as it comes.

I did hit the mall on Black Friday. First time in a looong time. It was fun. But I wish I got more things for other’s than myself. 🙂

  14. Jamie ☆ November 25, 2012 at 10:43 pm

Hey Nancy! Sorry, I haven’t been posting on my other blog, nor commenting on your site in a long TIME! Truth is – I’ve moved my blog due to my ex-boyfriend having access to my domain, so I moved it to . That’s my new blog from now on. As, I don’t have any reason to continue a blog on a regular domain, since I’m paying for rent, food and what not. That I think will get in the way of me having an actual domain. Anyway, this post is very sweet of you, and I’m thankful for having you as a friend online and in my life! You’re such a great and sweet person! Your new layouts rock harder than your last ones. Anyway, I didn’t do much for Thanksgiving, as I had it on the 18th with my apartment complex. I stayed home and didn’t celebrate it with my dad and his girlfriend’s family. I don’t know her family, and choose not to know them (for many reasons). Anyway, I’m not sure if you’ve been following my posts on Facebook or not, but I am definitely going to start counseling soon, and I have been talking to my mom which started back up on Thanksgiving! 🙂 . I’m happy all around. Though, I wish the past didn’t happen the way it did, but as I’ve told her – We can’t change the past. I’m so thankful, that I have supporting friends and family that wants me even though at times it feels like they don’t. Anyway, I’ll check out your domain give away.

Happy Thanksgiving! I know it’s late but we always have something to be thankful for everyday right? 🙂 I have to admit, I don’t really get Thanksgiving and Black Friday? I mean, what do people do on those days? I really don’t know!

That’s a really nice list of things you are thankful for! Not a lot of people know what they really have and how great it is and how they should be thankful for them (sometimes, that’s me *sigh*). You’re a really good person! 🙂
