Throwback Tuesday
January 28, 2014

Wanting to do something difference for once, here is a throwback Tuesday post. Throwbacks are usually done on Thursdays, but I figured I could bend the rules a bit.

With time, people are bound to change, right? It depends on what in particular changes; such as the person’s habits, taste, personality, or their entire lifestyle whether it’s for the best or worse. In my case, I will list a few things about me that either stayed the same or changed within the past 6~8 years… Which is my middle school years *o*.

I Wanted to Major in the Medical Field
Back in the day, I wanted to major in something in the medical field…. My interest began fading away when I found out about the curriculum, watched the Untold Stories of the E.R. (even though the chances are pretty slim), and found an interest in computer-related *things* instead. Even though I changed my mind and wanted to do computer science, I ended up changing my mind once again into doing computer info. systems with hopes of getting into networking and/or information security in specific.

I Used to Like Listening to Korean-Pop
It is probably an stereotypical Asian-girl thing to like K-Pop at one point and I’m no exception. I probably listened to K-Pop for around half a year before going back to mainstream stuff, Panic! At the Disco, and Fall Out Boy for a couple of years… Then went on to liking EDM (Electronic Dance Music) and the likes. I tried listening to K-Pop in the recent years but I’m done with any of the songs within 5 seconds x____x. There’s nothing wrong with K-Pop or anything; I just don’t have a taste for it anymore.

I Like Cars More Now
Back then, I didn’t care much about cars besides thinking, “the mustang looks nice” and that’s it. (Which is the 5th generation at the time.)  Learning how to drive manual was the last thing I would do back then. Now, I would want to learn if I could. I’m more eager than before to learn about cars beyond the physical appearance such as some of the kinks that makes the performance ~beast~. I don’t know ~everything~ about cars but some of the handful stuff I know about so far is a good start.

I Used to Hate Sushi
A bit weird to say this since I love eating sushi now. When I tried eating sushi rolls the first few times back then, I would hate it because of the taste. I can say sushi is an acquired taste because it took me a few years before I actually liked it. Sushi is probably one of my favorite foods to eat today.

I Still Like Wearing Hollister Clothes
Despite of the whole controversy that went on with the company or people hating on the overall theme of the brand, I still like wearing Hollister clothes even years later. The comfort of the clothes wins my interest for the most part. I do look through what’s available in other stores but the clothes don’t grab my attention as much. At the most, I like the dresses from Papaya Clothing, bags from Windsor Store, and a few small things from other stores.

I Try to Avoid Makeup
… Kind of since lip gloss counts as makeup? I use light lip gloss that barely changes the color of my lips so it’s nothing that drastic. Otherwise, I try to avoid using makeup because I don’t want to dedicate time, the good products are expensive in the long run, and I don’t feel the need for it. If anything, I use lotion/cream to keep my skin from drying out.

I Still Like Playing Video Games
Even though I don’t have much time now, I still like playing video games.. Through the years, I played through some games like Age of Empires, Maple Story, Ragnarok, World of Warcraft, Trickster, Silkroad, Tera, Call of Duty, Skyrim/Elder Scrolls, Assassin’s Creed, and a few others I forgot the name of. 3 of my most favorite games out of the list is probably World of Warcraft, Silkroad, and Assassin’s Creed 3. I really liked the story behind AC3 so that wins my vote.

That’s all for now~

I like the idea of this post 🙂 It’s fun to look back on how we used to be. Computer Science wasn’t my first choice either. I actually wanted to get into Art back in my middle school years!

haha, I was like that except with J-pop and HK-pop. For some reason, I never got into K-pop much, but I definitely preferred Asian music when I was younger. I still like it, but I don’t keep up with it at all now. I was opposite on the cars thing though. I was interested in them when I was younger but not now.

Sushi is one of my favorites too! I don’t think I ever disliked it, but I didn’t really try it until I was in college.

I’m the same way with make-up. I’ll wear it for cosplay and special occasions, but otherwise… it really does take time and money! I’d rather spend that money on food and games 😉 I got more free time to play games once I started working. School also takes up too much time!

I wanted to major in medical fields, too — oncology to be specific, because I read all these Lurlene McDaniel books, haha!

    I’m the same with you on K-Pop — I grew up with the “old-school” K-Pop, but as I grew older, I started to dislike them, especially when they became more westernised? Or something like that. Plus, because I am exposed to them here, it just started to drive me batty, so I began to boycott them XD;;;

As for make-up, I experimented with them in high school, but after graduating from it, I stopped applying make-up entirely. I just can’t be bothered to, and the cosmetic products are expensive. Plus, I think more women should stick with their natural look. I always find it disturbing to see someone’s natural face when they are free of make-up. Not only is it because their faces are drastically different, but I think people who never wear make-up should just keep it one-way or another? Going back and forth just confuses me LOL.

Aw this post idea is cute! I love throwbacks on any day of the week. 🙂

I wanted to do something in the medical field too! It just didn’t work out… I mean I know TV shows aren’t exactly as is, but it still is super scary to know that you’re probably going to be stressed the rest of your life, huh? & Haha oh, kpop. I know what you mean. I used to be obsessed with it and now I can’t stand a lot of the new songs/artists. It’s like they’re trying too hard to be different, y’know?

I can’t imagine that you used to hate sushi! Especially since you make such gorgeous sushi rolls. 😛 You’re right though, it’s definitely an acquired taste but it sure is delicious.

Thumbs up for the makeup. I wear makeup pretty often but on days that I choose not to, I feel so freee! Your decision to wear minimal makeup is prob the best 🙂

It’s a good thing you told me about your comments being flagged for spam or else I wouldn’t have ever seen it.

New layout I see! Or at least since the last time I saw your layout. Interesting that you’re toning down the colors! What made you decide to go for just 3 different colors instead of your usual exquisitely self?

Ah yes, I do remember when you said you didn’t like sushi & I thought you crazy. I don’t think it’s an acquired taste really – more of make sure you eat something that isn’t out of your comfort zone (like chirashi) & start with something easy like eel & avocado rolls or a california roll. They’re both cooked rolls & they’re really delicious. Shoot, even a chicken roll would be a good start. I do think that uni & ikura are acquired tastes though. Most raw things are 😉

Haha I think you might be the only person I know that actively wears Hollister. My boyfriend used to work there in college & I tell him not to tell people that when they first meet him because it’s embarrassing, but he owns up to it. He’s funny. I still give him so much grief over it. Honestly, wear whatever you love. I buy clothes from everywhere, besides the Abercrombie brands, mostly because they’re overpriced merchandise from China. Your style is a reflection of how you present yourself. Hollister & Abercrombie resound with a lot of Asian foreigners, so on campus, you can usually tell who’s an international student just by whether or not they’re wearing Hollister/Abercrombie & carrying a designer handbag. Wear what you love, always!

I don’t think make-up takes too much of my time. The combination of showering & make-up, however, does. On lazy days, I just fill in my eyebrows, but most days I just stick with very basic things. It helps bring out your features & makes you look less sleepy &/or in my case, a 23 year old & not a 16 year old. Shaping your eyebrows is vital for Asians, mostly because we have very thin eyebrows & they tend to grow all over the place. Eyebrows shape your face! Huge difference when they’re shaped. 😉

I’m glad you decided to major in something you’re truly passionate in & not biology to be a doctor or something. There are far too many people who major in biology or biochemistry because they want to be something their parents want them to be & not something they want to be.

I honestly can’t imagine myself being in any medical field. I’m too scared. Lol. But I’ve always thought that Doctors & Nurses look really polished and organized.

As for the K-Pop thing, I agree with you. It’s like so stereotypical for an Asian-girl to like K-Pop. I used to like it too, back in my Junior year in High school. But as time passed by, i kinda grew distant to it. I enjoy listening to bands like A Rocket To the Moon, Sleeping with Sirens, The Maine and many more bands now.

    I wish I could play video games like you. I want someone to introduce video games to me. I’d really like to play some. ;w;

Oh man, this reminds me of CCOT [changes/continuities over time] charts we had to do for my AP World History class. *Nostalgia* I really like how you used this concept to see where you are today, compared to your past self. A bit of change from a typical “Throwback” photo dump feels refreshing. 🙂

Fun fact: I used to hate sushi too because I was disgusted by the thought of some raw fish plastered on rice. That was until I tried it. Needless to say, I went 180 on that. xD

That’s an interesting change, haha. But I find some things you experience later in life, you might become intensely interested in despite never having a passing interest when you were young.
For example, I got really into basketball and NBA stats recently, despite never caring about it when I was in high school.
and OMG you played Ragnarok and Maple story too! haha they were really addictive back in the day. AC3 got a lot of criticisms because it was very linear but I think AC4 is pretty good, love bringing pirates into it.

I love your new layout. Yay for minimalism ! 🙂

Throwback Tuesday still works because Tuesday begins with T. #muchsense

K-Pop will forever be my thang. I don’t think I can every outgrow it. G-Dragon is my lover. All day, err day. Also – YAASSS FOR EDM. *body pops* (even though I can’t body pop. That’s irrelevant)

With you on makeup. I find it so intimidating at times. And why the hell is it so expensive?! Jesus. Plus, I have super sensitive skin.

Aw, aw, Maple Story. I love popping my PS2 from time to time, just to play Kingdom Heart 1/2 because you know… it’s Kingdom Hearts.
