Two Thousand Fourteen
January 1, 2014

Happy New Year’s! I hope 2014 will be a great year for everyone~ With that said, I’m looking forward to the new year and all of the adventures that lies ahead. Also with the new year, I have an excuse to start fresh and have some new goals for the year. The main point is to guide me towards the *right* path so here are the fourteen objectives for 2014:

★ 3.3 is the Magic Number
This year, the magic number for the GPA I would like to have at the very least is a 3.3. Why is it 0.2 points lower than last year’s goal? I’m planning on transferring during the fall while taking the upper division courses and I don’t know how the school system works; so I made a compromise with myself by settling for a 3.3 GPA at the very least. As always, the  higher the better. For the spring, I am planning on taking my last 4 lower division classes and I hope everything works out for me!

★ Prepare More Homemade Meals
Preparing homemade meals tend to be healthier and cheaper so why not? Although it takes time for the meals to be made, the benefits are rewarding. Cooking is a valuable skill to have in the long run so it’s better to strengthen the skill as early as possible. This year, I’m aiming to learn how to prepare at least 5 meals I haven’t made before. Hopefully at the end of the year, I could name at least 5 of those meals :).

★ Be Consistent with this Blog
Wanting to keep this blog an ongoing thing, I am aiming to be consistent with this blog when it comes to publishing posts and updating some contents here and there. I’m at the point where I’m posting once a week and I’d like to keep it this way while avoiding going on hiatus because I’m too busy with what’s going on in life. Blogging will always be in my schedule whether I’m busy or not :).

★ Get More Involved with My Major
I’m majoring in Computer Information Systems and I want to be more involved with my major outside of class whether it’s learning things on my own, attend sessions, or join a club. I was initially aiming to focus more in the networking field except I always found myself getting involved with information/cyber security instead. Whichever I end up choosing (could be both), I want more involvement this year.

★ Get Organized & Stay Organized with Schoolwork
Whenever I start things out with my schoolwork, I tend to be organized then get messy as time pass and fix things up towards the end. It’s a bad habit to have so here’s my excuse to start some good organizing habits (and hopefully keep them) starting now!

★ Manage Finance & Build Credit
Even though I successfully avoided financial problems last year, I want to manage my finances closely this year. This means keep my compulsive purchases to a minimum and spend money when I have to. For example: even though I love eating beef jerky, I don’t need it weekly. I should treat myself to one when I deserve a reward such as acing my midterm or something. As for building credit, credit comes handy later on when there’s no cash on hand. With that said, I should use my credit card more this year.

★ Pick Up an Old Hobby
I noticed I didn’t do much with my hobbies in 2013. Instead of totally focusing on picking up new hobbies, I’ll put some focus on an old hobby or two. As for which one in specific, I’m not sure yet but there’s a handful to choose from making kandi bracelets to doodling.

★ Get Used to Driving on the Freeway
Even though I have been driving to school by going on to the freeway since March, I’m still not completely used to it yet. I’m already lucky enough with the 15 minute drive at the moment but as time goes by, I will have to be completely confident with the freeway since I will have to drive to other places. In a way, I’m convinced that it’s because I don’t have enough exposure to the freeway yet. But I’m sure I will by the time I buy my own Camaro ;).

★ Positivity + Happiness
I want to improve on being more positive and happy about things and avoid being negative as much as I can. Although it’s hard to totally avoid being a downer, it can be handled. So more focus on happy thoughts, less on upsetting thoughts. Easier said than done but it’s possible one step at a time.

★ Eat Healthier
Once again, I want to emphasize in eating healthier this year. Instead of eliminating the choices I eat when I go out, I’m focusing more about what I’m eating at home. For example, I  like eating Thai Instant Noodles when I’m lazy to make ~real food~ except they’re really unhealthy in the long run. So I am aiming to seriously limit how often I eat food like that.

★ Make the Transferring Process Smooth
Woo! I can finally transfer this fall! Well, I have to since I’m finished with all of my lower division courses by the end of spring. I want to make this transition as smooth as I can while having a memorable time (in a good way). This includes getting used to the new environment, meeting new people, and settling in. If I can name 6 great memorable moments from this, I will be happy.

★ Be More Efficient
Be more efficient… This is a bit general so it gives me room to spread on this idea. One of the ideas on how to be more efficient is to utilize my time better. This involves me having to adjust to give things a better thought before action is done. I’m already efficient when it comes to running errands since I know where to go, but when it comes to performing other tasks, I believe I can do a better job if I manage my time correctly. I’ll probably explain more of this when the year ends :P.

★ Improve on Them Social Skills
I like socializing with other’s because it’s always interesting to know about the different experiences and perspectives people have. Though I have some faults here and there that I am working on. I managed to successfully avoid having a meltdown most of last year except for towards the end of November. Hopefully I can look at things in a different light and handle any possible situations like so differently.

★ Keeping Up the Awesomeness
Lastly, as my boyfriend and I are on our second year of being together, I hope this will be a great year or better for us compared to 2013. I am thankful for everything that he has done for me and I’m looking forward to the adventures we will go through together this year :).

With that said, let’s celebrate the New Year’s and make this one a good one!

P.S. New layout here and at ribboned.net :).

Love your new layout! It’s cute 😀

Good luck with all your goals in 2014! I hope your transferring process goes smoothly, you get good grades, and you eat healthier! And I like your idea of going back to an old hobby. I am trying to think if there are any “old” hobbies I have, but I can’t think of any since I rotate through them!

Happy new year to you too.

Wow those are some resolutions you got there. I don’t usually make any though since I don’t see the purpose of it… wait, in fact, I quite dislike the idea of even making up one xD i’m like a grumpy grinch of christmas.

but, if insisted, i think i’ll just make “lose more weight” a yearly resolution. or better yet, everyday’s resolution because i still think i’m a fatso 😛

i think you can reach 3.3 GPA. i mean..you’re hardworking and stuff. i used to be able to achieve a 3 GPA but i didn’t…since i purposely dropped one class (teacher sucks, class sucks. long story) so yeah..haha.

I used to love instant noodles too. admit it, they do taste good but yeah.. I managed to quit that a year ago. i kind of blocked myself from eating what i used to love now too..all for the sake of losing weight. and because i DID lose like 10kg over the year…the fear of seeing an incline number of kilogram forbids me to eat them back lol i’m paranoid about weight.

    wow, gurl.
“I like socializing…” WOW, NANCY. seriously. i think if my parents have me acting as determined and as nice as you, they’d be very very grateful and happy. no, really. i how are you so….so……… TTvTT you’re just…cool, haha.

P.S: nice new layout 😉 love ze background

It’s smart that you are adjusting the GPA goal knowing you are transferring colleges. I transferred colleges and it was completely different, I think even my GPA was different when I transferred because the first school 65 was a C and the second one 65 was failing or something like that.

Good luck with all your goals in 2014.

Happy New Year! I hope you had a good one 🙂

I believe in goals instead of resolutions. Seems more likely you’ll completely them, if I’m honest. Good luck with yours!

Homemade meals are awesome. The great thing is you can prepare something and then have leftovers which you can pack for lunch. Saving you money!

You should also try and get some work experience in your major, if you can. Always looks good on your CV.

    I love your new layout!

I like the practicality of your goals, that they’re less “things I never do and should do once in a while” and more habitual–which is what I think is ideal for goals, anyways. Personally. Not putting down anyone else’s new years resolutions, but. You know what I mean 😛

Congratulations on being able to transfer, and good luck with that! I also know what you mean about not wanting to go on hiatus because of busyness of life–I always think of my own blog as a break from that. Who says you can’t keep an online life and a “real life” life consistent and simultaneous?

I love your happiness goal :3

Aww I love how you labeled them with different colors. So cute!

I know you will do well Nancy! You always do so well. Your GPA will still be soaring!

Oh good luck with the cooking I remember you made wrote about making delicious food with your boyfriend. I should add that one to my list. I am learning to cook!

I wish I could keep my blog consistent but I can’t because of the internet thing. I miss blogging regularly!

I need to build credit. I still don’t have a credit or debit card I need to get on with that. Maybe I’m not as grown up as I thought.

The freeway in LA must be hard to drive, traffic there is so bad! I haven’t driven to nyc yet except some outer areas on weekends so I haven’t seen a lot of traffic.

Good luck with transfering school! I transferred too and I loved it so much, though it’s a little different because I transferred from a public university to a private.

    Take care Nancy!

Given how much you’ve accomplished in 2013, I think all of this is possible. 🙂 I feel you on the highway one. I’m not sure if we share the exact hesitation, but I tend to feel a bit reserved about driving on the highways too. In my case, it’s because I worry more about getting lost. Not sure about LA, but Houston is a city that literally revolves around highways [with buildings within the loops, of course]. I should know my way by now, but I still need improvement. xD

It’s great to start off the new year with goals in mind. I hope you can keep them up! The best thing is to focus on one area of your life at a time, usually start with the one that needs the most work and what’s most important to you. Don’t overwhelm yourself or put too much pressure on yourself, take it slow. Good luck!

Happy belated new year! Great new theme that you have up here! Your list is so positive, and it’s measurable and attainable. I think the 3.3 GPA will be achievable for you as you are so highly committed. And I agree with the last part… keep up with the AWESOMENESS!!

Happy new year to you too! I hope you surpass your GPA! Best of luck with the meals too because I can’t really cook for the life of me haha. Computer Information Systems sounds amazing. I’m currently doing an honours specialization in economics, but I really want to do a double major with an honours specialization in computer science as well. I love computers and computer science, so I’m thinking about it. I love how your post is super motivational because it’s making me more motivated. Nowadays, I’ve been reading a lot of motivational blogs which is great. I love reading them! Good luck with all of your goals!
