An Upcoming Refresh
September 11, 2015

Another year of school is starting in less than two weeks! I’m registered for 5 classes at the moment but I still need to pick one class to drop due to waitlisting issues. My current course load includes 2 security, 1 computer science, 1 marketing management, and 1 engineering class(s). More details of the classes can come along at a later time. For now, I made a list of some of the things I want to do this next school year because lists are awesome and motivational.

  • Be able to name 3 different spontaneous adventures. 1)I actually mean “at least” the stated number. However, it can stay at that number or exceed it.
I didn’t realize how fun spontaneous adventures can be, especially since you don’t need to stress about planning beforehand. I suppose the only stress would be wondering, “is this place open?“. Thankfully there are many choices to choose from whether it’s eating out, sightseeing, or something creative.
  • Do more at school. Embrace the college life without becoming too crazy.
Hopefully this is my last year as an undergrad student. I’d like to make the most out of my college experience after getting my feet wet for a few years now.

    • First official brewery trip.
Funny story, I’ve been to the brewery several times before I turned 21. The best witbier is the Dr. Ortiz (not the person).
    • Pumpkin patch.
The pumpkin patch looked cool, lezzzz go?
    • Try to go to one school event.
BroncoFusion is definitely out of the list because I’ll be gone all day. Going to at least one event would be good enough for me~
    • Wear school spirit.
I never got the chance to buy a school tee; maybe because I never found a design I liked.
  • Continue rebuilding my desktop.
Luckily, it’s easier to rebuild a desktop than a car… Not that I want to rebuild a car or anything. I’m replacing computer parts at my own pace and it’s a good learning experience to know what’s going on inside the case.
  • Create 10 new dishes I’ve never made before.
I’ve spent countless hours taking notes of possible dishes I can cook up at the village2)aka university apartments.. I’m trying to take a healthier approach this year so we’ll see how that goes! On the other hand, I like to cook and trying out new recipes is fun! The only thing that’s not fun is having to go to several markets looking for one specific item.
  • Go to 5 new eateries I haven’t been to before.
I’ve discovered a lot of eateries last year and there are plenty more to visit.~ I have a habit of going to the same places over and over so it’s time to expand my eatery scope!
  • Discover 5 more things I want to do.
This is my leeway to add on some more things on this list because I always come up with new things I want to do over time.
  • Improve myself in something.
    Something… Can it be self-defense? Suuuuuuure ;).
  • Create a smash book.
I somehow accumulated an inventory of albums, scrapbook paper, and a bunch of cute accessories over the past few months. Sales are awesome and I have a creative side that sparks once in a while. I already finished making a scrapbook and it’s waiting for printed pictures to fill the slots. A smash book is basically a cross between a scrapbook and journal where people insert whatever they want in it (long story short).
  • “What’s the coolest cyber security related thing you did this past year?”
Last year’s was where I caught the previous IT3)Who does he think he is? messing with our ERP. It’s relating to the field not so much in the prevention side but the investigation/aftermath side instead.

    1. Brewery opened after I graduated so I’ve never been but I’ve heard it’s nice. Not a beer drinker, though.
    2. Pumpkin patch is okay. The food stands are a bit better.
    3. Hot Dog Caper! Or else that ridiculous zombie game they always play.
    4. I never bought a shirt until I graduated from the grad program. There’s a packet that comes with an alumni sweatshirt and tee.

They have wine too!! Thanks for making me sound like an alcoholic XD. They didn’t do the zombie game last year, didn’t hear any of it but it seemed really cool! Hot dog caper was pretty gross, the buns were cold (I’m picky about my buns ;)).

“I’m picky about my buns” DO YOU EVEN HEAR YOURSELF

I’m sure the zombie game was fun but I honestly hated it. For one, they were always throwing socks? For another, I can’t count how many times I nearly got knocked over by some asshole trying to make it into a building in time, and considering how small I am each time felt like death reaching its cold, bony arms up to catch me.

Looks like you have a lot of things planned, Good luck with that! I hope you get do every single one in your list. Haha I think it’s great that you decided to engage more on activities and have the willingness to try and discover new ones 🙂

  3. Tara ☆ September 12, 2015 at 6:10 pm

These are awesome goals and plans, Nancy! I like how you’re so open to wanting to try new things 😀 Plus, all your goals will be very expansive and good for you, so kudos, girl!

If you ever do invent a teleportation machine, one of your spontaneous adventures is to come to Korea 😀 I’ll show you a ball and go to all the Korean BBQ you want and eat a lot of good food XD

But seriously, good luck with your new semester and school year. Keep up with everything and do blog about it 😀

Yay, I’m looking forward to reading about your spontaneous adventures 🙂 I want to take more of them, too!

Aww, can’t believe it’ll be your last year. Feels like you’ve been in college for ages, though! I would love to visit a brewery.

I think that American college and UK college are hella different. I was reading some article on Buzzfeed and it seems that America is very much high in school spirit. We just love to drink, here. Just drink. That’s it. Drink.

I bought my uni’ hoodie in first year. I was so excited :>

Good luck with your goals for the next year! Oh, and I’m down with Tara and a teleportation machine – come to London!

Good luck with school when it begins. Hopefully you can figure out which one to drop!

I hope that you are able to do all the things that you want too. I am sure that you can!

I have never heard of a smash book before, but it sounds really cool! 😀

  6. Cat ☆ September 13, 2015 at 1:53 pm

This is a good list! Good luck on all of it!

Building your own desktop is nice. I like knowing what’s inside my computer and being able to pick out each part. The graphics card is usually the only thing I replace. Every 5 years, I build a new one with all new parts XD

I like how a lot of your list is about discovering and trying more things. Life is more exciting when you change things up 🙂 Blue Apron has helped me a lot when it comes to making new dishes! I don’t have to worry about shopping for ingredients or picking out what to make. (Let me know if you want to try a week for free!)

I’m also glad you said what a smash book is. I was kind of confused on that, haha. That sounds like a fun project!

I hope your classes go well!

I used to hate spontaneous adventures since I like a bit of planning, but some things turn out to be really fun when you just ‘go somewhere’ and then explore. I love it. I’ve tried to embrace it more lately. Most of the time I am just too engrossed in other things, or digital things, that I need to find the warmth in getting up and out. xD

The legal drinking age in Australia is 18. You would have been at breweries for years! 😛

Going to new eateries sounds like an awesome idea. I have a little list of restaurants I want to try out. It’s just a matter of finding the time.

I built my own PC a while ago. 🙂 I am not into PCs anymore since I use Macs now, but it was interesting trying to put it together because I was very new to it.

I like the idea of a smash book but I’m so engrossed in the digital world and getting creative digitally that I am not sure if I would spend a great deal of time on a smash book if I had one. 🙁 I have always liked the idea of scrapbooking but I feel like I’m leaving that to when I get my own house and can get really into it. Anything I make now can potentially be dismantled in the next few years… xD

Good luck on the new school year! I’m sure you’ll rock it. 😀

Creating ten new dishes sounds exciting! I tend to cook the same five things, so I think a challenge like that would be awesome. I got a week’s worth of Blue Apron which has been great. Too bad it’s so expensive. :’D

  9. Jessica ☆ September 14, 2015 at 8:12 pm

Yay for lists! I hope that you are able to accomplish everything that you’re setting out to do. I think my favorite one, and I’m stealing it for my list provided you don’t mind – that’s currently being written – is Discover 5 more things I want to do. 😀 Because like you I always think of things to add after the list is completed…actually I never completely finish writing ’em because of this. :/ Maybe adding this will help?

I went to a pumpkin patch and IT WAS AWESOME. All the pumpkins. If you look, it is mostly churches that do it. Still, loved it.

Good luck with all of what you wanna do this year.

    Hahahaha

Ahh, university starts for me in 2 weeks too! I’m super excited! I have wrote down my goals & plans for the upcoming academic year too (http://pawlean.com/2015/09/03/goals-plans/) I thought it’d be a great way to motivate myself too – and it has worked!

Good luck with all your goals! I want to create dishes – I can barely cook ha!
