Valentine’s Munchies
February 15, 2014

On Valentine’s Day, my boyfriend took me out to eat sushi! I wanted to try this place out for a while and at the end, I was pleased with the food + service. We ended up going for the all you can eat deal since we were hungry and never had one together before. We chose to eat at the sushi bar rather than the regular tables and kind of saw the sushi being made, which was cool.

Here is a sample of what we ordered (not everything we ordered are listed below):

To start things out, I ordered the salmon eggs and my boyfriend ordered the spicy scallops. I love eating the salmon eggs because you can pop them in your mouth. Though I prefer salmon eggs over masago (the smaller eggs) because I could actually taste the salmon eggs. Masago is “handy” for those who really likes popping the eggs since there are so many of them.

These are called “Monkey Balls”. I have no idea why these are called monkey balls, but worry not- it has nothing to do with monkeys in this case. The main contents of this dish includes tuna stuffed in mushrooms with a tempura coating. We had it before at a different sushi joint before so it was nothing new to us.

I was surprised when the volcano roll came to our table because there was a fire set underneath the foil! If you see some blue flames, that is it! This roll had eels or cooked fish on top with tuna on the inside. All I know is that the roll was delicious. I suppose I was too busy trying to eat instead of paying attention to the finer details XD.

I normally prefer the nigiri’s so I went ahead and ordered the yellowtail, salmon, and surf clam while my boyfriend ordered the eel. The point of this plate is to try out the different varieties of fish rather than getting full. My favorite out of the three is the salmon because it was the easiest to chew on and there was more taste to it. I have a couple of blocky things temporarily implanted under my top molars so it’s harder for me to chew and I can’t bite all the way down *-*.

My boyfriend ordered this so I didn’t catch the name properly. There are tempura shrimp and jalapeño slices in the rolls. I thought it was going to be spicy but it wasn’t spicy at all.

For the final sampler picture, this is another roll that my boyfriend ordered that had tempura shrimp on top of the tuna rolls. For some reason, this reminded me of the honey walnut shrimp from Panda Express :o. I tried a piece and it was a filler! I was getting full so I ended the meal with another order of the salmon eggs (like the ones from the first picture).

Overall, the meal was delicious and I had a great Valentine’s Day celebration! Hopefully everyone enjoyed Valentine’s Day whether you celebrate it or not. For sure, this day serves a great purpose for businesses such as the “flower industry” since more people buy flowers on this day than any other day (as far as my knowledge goes). I don’t mind, let people do what they want to do. With that said- love, peace, and martini drinks.

Oh, yum! Those are making me hungry. *drools*

And Monkey balls? That’s a hilarious name for a food, hahaha! Oh, man, too funny 😀

I’m glad you had a great V-day with your boyfriend. I spent my day unwinding from work, so it was a good day for me XD

Sushi looks so wonderful and I wish I could eat all of it but I’m allergic to seafood except shrimps which SUCKS.

I’m really hoping I outgrow my allergies, just so I can try other types of sushi.

All of this looks yummy and now I’m hungry, haha.

I love sitting at the sushi bar instead of the table 😀 My favorites are the ones where you can order directly from the sushi chef. You get the sushi faster and can order as you go!

Ooh, all of the food looks delicious. That’s the first time I’ve seen a roll with fire underneath it, haha. Very cool! I’m more of a nigiri person too, and I order at least one piece of salmon and yellowtail every time. Those are a couple of my favorites 🙂 I’m a big fan of unagi and anago too.

I’m glad you had a great Valentine’s Day dinner!

I love all you can eat sushi places that are good! I’m always worried that the quality and presentation wont be great due to “all you can eatness”. There’s a sushi place here in London that is all you can eat and has a large menu. My boyfriend and I are planning a trip there soon.

    Omgosh, everything looks so yummy!

I keep saying but I really ought to try sushi. I’m just not sure where is best in my neighborhood.

It sounds like you had a good time on Valentine’s day though! =)

Oh my gosh, that food looks interesting and something I wouldn’t mind trying. I know my husband would try it so bad. He’s in love with that sort of food.

I’m glad that you had a great Valentine’s Day with your boyfriend. I wish you many more!

Despite the differences via email. I have nominated you for the Liebster Award. Please let me know if you decide to accept this or not.

Glad you had a wonderful Valentine’s day.

Back when I was all eww over sushi (unbelievable, really because every now and then i crave for it. i wonder if this is how karma tastes like), i find salmon eggs creepy… it’s like eating toad’s or frog’s eggs (I swear I have all the inappropriate synonyms for food I find displeasing LOL) but now i think they’re good ;w; they still feel weird in my mouth, what’s with all the popping and such and they really smell fishy even if it’s in your gum (if that even makes sense) but yea they’re good (and expensive, i suppose)

my friend finds salmon eggs disgusting and creepy though 😛

the volcano rolls look awesome ;___; they remind me of baked dynamite rolls.. in here, dynamite rolls are always served with aluminium foil as such >ww< i love it since it's not fusion western sushi rolls 😛 and of course raw food equals to fresh and this is the real definition of healthy sushi :))
    ….man i love all the nigiri on your plate ;w;

ah, V-day huh…. i never really care about it 😛 also because my boyfriend is a freaking computer so we can't do anything besides playing with each other at home OTL and also because while v-day's going on, i was busy chasing deadlines for my finals haha

Sushi date’s one of the best dates EVER! Forget those romantic dinners at some western restaurants. xD It’s all about SUSHIII! No seriously though, what better way to show “I love you and spending times with you” than taking you out to places that you both enjoy? 😀
