This Week’s Roundup IV
September 3, 2016

Happy September! We’re finally on to the third quarter of the year. It’s amazing to think how fast time flies. In a way, it’s a good thing because this means December is coming up pretty soon (aka: time to buy a new car ?). I’m looking forward to starting my new job this month and maaaaybe going back to the gym… We’ll see what happens!

Leaving My Job on a Good Note

This past Wednesday was my last day of working as IT. I’m extremely thrilled about advancing in my career, but was a bit sad when I had to say goodbye to my coworkers. Information security is my passion and I knew I can’t achieve it at this company. I’m thankful for gaining a ton of experience in an IT and business perspective over these past two years. I believe I left my job on a good note where I trained my replacement well enough on how to program our ERP software. My new job starts next Thursday and I’m getting sent out to Chicago for training the following week. I’m pretty excited to see what’s ahead of me!

Disneyland

I don’t regret buying an annual pass to Disney. My boyfriend and I enjoy having our FriDates there (Cove Bar is ❤️). Yesterday is probably the last time we’ll have our FriDate there for a long time because of my new job, but that’s fine. I headed off to Disney California Adventure (DCA) a bit early yesterday to go on some rides on my own before my boyfriend got off from work. Solo adventuring at Disney isn’t bad at all because you’re in full control on what rides you want to go on and can go straight to the single rider lines without guilt. I ended up going on Radiator Springs Racers twice in a row within 30 minutes! When my boyfriend arrived at DCA, we met up at the Cove Bar. My usual order includes the Trio of Tri-Tip Sliders and Fun Wheel drink.

Bath & Body Works Goodies

I love Bath & Body Works’ eucalyptus spearmint scent in their Aromatherapy line. They had a 50% off sale and I couldn’t resist buying some goods to replenish my stash.

What’s your favorite scent (from any brand)?

DSLR Camera

Ever since buying a Nikon D5500 last month, I’ve been learning how to use its features from aperture priority, shutter priority, and many more. I think it’s important to know what function does what even if I don’t use it on a regular basis. The quality of the pictures are amazing! I took the camera out a couple of times, but ended up feeling a bit self-conscious about using the big ol’ camera to take cute pics. At the end, it doesn’t matter what people think when you’re out in the world using a DSLR (thanks Cat & Holly for the tips). If you have any tips about using a DSLR with confidence, let me know ❤️!~

I hope that everything goes really well with your new job. It’s great that you took the initiative to work in an area that was much more suited for you and that it’s something that you really want to do. 😀

That’s really good that you have been enjoying your time at Disneyland, sounds like the annual pass was completely worth it. 😀

Congratulations on the camera. It’s amazing the improvement in quality that you do have with them and the amount of control to really do a lot of things you can’t with phones. It can take a while to learn the settings (some things I am still not 100% on yet), but the more you know, the better photos you can take. I usually try and avoid the flash at all costs.

Thanks for you wishes, Kya! I am loving the ability to control with the DSLR so far. I still need a ton of practice with knowing what settings are best for a certain situation. Oh yes, I avoid flash too because it’s harder to edit pictures that way!

Woot for new job and opportunities! It’s clear you earned some valuable experience with your old job, and it’s even better that you left on a good note 😀 Good luck with your new job, Nancy! I hope you’ll have a fabulous time in Chicago.

That’s great you were able to get 50% off on your favourite scent products. Nothing’s better than getting things on sale! My favourite scent is “Dirty” from Lush! I am also adoring the scent from TonyMoly’s Panda’s Dream White Sleeping Pack 🙂

Your Disney adventures make me jelly 😀 I hope to make it there one day. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with solo adventuring in an amusement park, but it’s definitely better with someone else!

And dude, don’t feel so self-conscious about using your DSLR camera in public! I don’t judge when I see people taking photos everywhere, here. 😀 Art is everywhere, and we all perceive things differently, so if they want to snap a photo of . . . say, the toilet, then who am I to judge? XD

    • Nancy ☆ September 5, 2016 at 11:43 pm

Thanks for the love, Tara ❤️.

I think it’s funny how Lush use the term Dirty to describe their flavor. Hey, it’s not that dirty if it’s great ?. If you ever make it to Disneyland in Cali and I still have a pass, I’ll be your companion!

I’m glad you don’t judge! It gives me hope in humanity ?

I think at some point everybody has to move on to greater things. It probably was hard for you to leave that job, but the next one will be a whole new experience and you’ll learn a lot. Good luck.

I usually like vanilla scents. I am crazy about them. I like sweet scents, I kind of hate the floral ones. I don’t know why. 🙁

The camera is taking amazing photos, good luck with using it and learning how to use all the features.

    • Nancy ☆ September 5, 2016 at 11:41 pm

The opportunity to learn is always worth the move over :). Thanks for your wishes!

  4. Pauline ☆ September 4, 2016 at 12:18 pm

YAAAAY! I’m most definitely sure that you will exceed and excel in your new job and I’ve said it before but what an absolutely amazing opportunity for you to get hands on experience in a field you really enjoy! 🙂 Best of luck and keep us updated 😀

I keep seeing your Twitter updates in DisneyLand that every time someone mentions disneyland to me you pop up in my head haha, and we always end up talking about how great Cali Disneyland is 😛

I don’t have a DSLR but a smaller mirrorless camera and I used to feel self conscious taking photos with it outside because people just usually take photos on iPhones/Android and when I take out my camera I get the comments from some friends like, “Wow, that’s a bit excessive dont you think?” But I’ve learnt just to ignore it because at the end of the day, I get amazing crisssssp images that bring me straight back to the day I took it and that’s worth all the judging looks imo 😉

    • Pauline ☆ September 4, 2016 at 12:19 pm

Also, go to the gym girrrrl! <3 Let's spread our fitness motivation to everyooooonneee!

    • Nancy ☆ September 5, 2016 at 11:40 pm

Yeah! At the end of the day, having a nice crisp picture matters more than what people have to say… Annnnnd I suppose more people will be wow’ing at the nice pic than hating on taking out the big camera to take pics ?.

Our Disneyland is awesome!! Only thing that’s bad is the crowd, but there are ways to go around it 🙂

  5. Cat ☆ September 6, 2016 at 10:37 pm

Always good to leave a job on a good note, especially one that you enjoyed! That’s great that you were able to train your replacement before you left. There were definitely times where someone left our company, and then we felt screwed in the area they were working in, haha. I hope your first day at your new job goes well!

I know what you mean with the solo adventuring. I love doing things with my husband, but sometimes it’s nice when I’m on my own and can just do whatever I want! That’s awesome that you guys have been going to Disney so often though 😀

Yes! Totally doesn’t matter what people think, so use your DSLR! I don’t know if it’s because I often use a DSLR, but when I see other people with it, I don’t really think anything of it. I think the only time I really take notice is if I’m interested in their gear! XD

    • Nancy ☆ September 7, 2016 at 10:42 pm

I experienced that one time when all of our software engineers left and the company needed someone to program the PLC. They thought I can magically learn, but it’s beyond my basic understanding of programming. Maybe some day! ?

I’m glad to hear you’re not judging. You take awesome pics, Cat!!

  6. Chynna ☆ September 7, 2016 at 11:46 am

That “maaaaaybe going going back to the gym” had me looking down at my belly and sighing really loudly. L00L.

It’s sad you had to leave your job, but like you said you are advancing in your career and it’s all for the best. And who knows, maybe you might go back to that company in an even more senior position with all the new skills you will learn 😀

I WANT TO GO BACK TO COVE BAR! Legit get so jealous every time I see you’re at Cove Bar, haha. Their drinks = <3

Get out there girl with your bad ass photography! Your photos are amazing~

    • Nancy ☆ September 7, 2016 at 10:39 pm

I’ll go where ever lots of $$$ and stability takes me ??. When you come back to Cali, I’ll treat yah to the Cove Bar ?

Thank you! I’m trying to practice some tasteful angles :).

GUUURL DID YOU DYE YOUR HAIR BROWN? 😉

wow, fridate at disneyland. what a blissful romantic life you have there, missy 😉

speaking of bath & body works, the other day i tried BBW for the first time because i thought it’s boring to always use body shop products, why not try for a change…turns out that i don’t like the collection and scents offered by the BBW in my country. all of them are pretty much floral scents and i have sensitive nose so i don’t like floral scents. they make me dizzy! in the end, i went to body shop AGAIN for my moisturizer.
i love anything vanilla, peppermint and some fruit / citrus / orange scents. the body shop’s pina colada limited edition is also such a great smell. i looooove pina colada. i think i prefer sweet / fresh fruity scents rather than floral ones.

aw, congrats on getting a DSLR. i remember getting my first and i was so happy that i took picture of anything and everything random. it was so stupid lol. i recommend using the dslr on A (aperture) mode because it’s not auto but it’s not 100% manual either. i love using the Aperture mode because i loooove low depth of field and aperture is the number one thing for me. if you want to create photographs of, say, light streaks from speeding cars, try using long shutter speed to form long exposure pictures. i suggest experimenting around with white balance too. for me, taking pictures with a dslr is best done through manual or program / aperture / shutter mode – never auto because that just defeats the purpose of learning how to operate and make the most out of DSLRs though of course, in the end, it’s up to the person holding the camera. as a learner, it makes me cringe when people use auto on their dslr and that they only buy dslr for the sake of looking high tech.

Ah, that thing being out in the world with DSLR, and an Asian on top that. People look at me like I’m some crazy Panda who got out of the Zoo. I miss B&B. The Stress relief series is one of my faves. The scent is just too relaxing. And I’ve never been to Disneyland. T_T

Good luck on your new job. Will you just be in Chicago for training? I stayed there for a month during Winter, and I thought I’m gonna die from the coldness.

  9. Claudine ☆ September 11, 2016 at 7:25 am

It’s so awesome that you get to go to Disneyland often. So jelly TT_TT I don’t really get to go that much but whenever I’m in the US I always make sure to pay my favorite place a visit! 🙂

Congratulations on the camera and it’s great that you’re learning how to use all of its features. I don’t think you have anything to worry about when using it to take pictures, don’t let what other people think influence you! Although I don’t use DSLRs, I do use mirrorless cameras to take pictures when I go out and some people would definitely stare, but I just ignore them because in the end I have really nice photos to take home 😉

I’m so glad you’re on the track of advancing your career! I hope the new job is going well!

I am super jealous that you live close to DCA. I’ve been to Disney in Florida but never to the one California. I’ll have to go there whenever I visit Cali.

I’m a huge fan of Bath and Body Works, I particularly love their Japanese Cherry Blossom line as well as their Lavender lotion.

I’d like to invest in DSLR camera at some point. My step-mom has one and she loves it.

  11. M ☆ September 14, 2016 at 8:11 am

Everytime you put up pictures of your meals from the Cove Bar in DCA, I drool haha I feel like I’m so familiar with the place now just looking at pictures =P

I have wanted a DSLR for 10 years now XD STILL haven’t gotten one for many many reasons, most of them being financial and cultural/familial.
You should go out there and take pictures like the world isn’t watching. Besides, you will probably never see those people ever again and SO many people own DSLRs now, nobody will be bothered to sit there and watch you take pictures – it’s not longer a “weird” site! It’s actually an impressive one! So, you do you girl.

I love bath and body works but again, where I live we don’t have a bath and body works. We only have random imported selections of bath and body works products which are super expensive (because they’re imported) =(
