This Week's Roundup IX

I’m almost convinced that the older you get, the faster time flies. This doesn’t really pressure me where I want to do everything ASAP. Though, there is that pressure where one wrong move (or not moving at all) can potentially screw up my future. That’s life, right?

My boyfriend and I went to watch Logan during opening weekend. Considering how Wolverine (portrayed by Hugh Jackman) for almost 17 years, it was bittersweet seeing the Wolverine series coming to an end. Despite all of this, I’m pretty excited to see what’s in store for Deadpool!

Personal Trainer

My personal training session came to an end last week. I decided to take advantage of the gym’s personal trainer promotion and asked for someone who specialized in MMA training. I actually got more than what I was looking for such as insight on how to improve my overall exercise routine and lifestyle habits that influence my health. I also found out I could lunge 100lbs- haven’t tried anything heavier yet. My personal trainer had me send him a picture of everything I eat. This helped me become more aware of what I consume.

Even though the sessions were on the expensive side, it was still worth the money for 5 weeks worth of training. Going forward, my boyfriend and I decided to send each other pictures of our meals to keep each other in check.

Improved Meal Consumption

I’m making a better attempt at eating healthier these days. I have been cutting on my land meat and carb intake and it has been going great so far. Portion size and nutrition matters. I’m only trying to maintain my body so I don’t really feel the need to have a very specific diet. I already avoid eating fried, baked foods, and drinking soda (unless it’s in cocktails).

For several months, I have been pretty addicted to Starbucks to the point where I would buy a drink at least 5 times per week. I realized that’s an unhealthy and costly habit. The good news is that I am having more self-control lately and been cutting down on the size and frequency of my drinks. I stopped having frappuccinos for almost a year and settled for a light caramel macchiato or cascara latte instead. I’m at the point where I am having it once per week (for a month so far) and drinking kombucha instead. Take that, Madame Mermaid!

Magic at Work

I’ve recently been put on a couple of projects pertaining to anti-money laundering. This is a completely new area for me and I’m pretty excited for the technical work behind it. In short, there is a reason why banks ask you a series of questions when you open an account. There is a risk tied to what you answer about yourself and account activities. Though, if your transactions are legitimate, there’s nothing to worry about. #AMLMagic

I’m pretty curious about how cyber security can be tied to this.

Spring Cleaning

I finally decided to do some spring cleaning in my room. I have way too much junk and don’t really see the point in keeping them. I found a bunch of iPhone cases for my iPhone 4s/5s and finally tossed them out. I’m not going after a minimalist lifestyle or anything like that. Sometimes, too much is just too much. I’m still keeping my origami star jar from 2007…

Have a great week~

I really like your banner! The background is neat. Did you design it yourself? I looooved Logan. It was so sad but a great ending to a great movie series. Hugh Jackman posted a throwback picture and he was so much younger looking when he first started! Especially his body. It’s really impressive considering how much older he is. I remember in an interview he mentioned how hard it was to keep fit in his 40s.

That’s great that you’re trying to keep up with what you learned via your personal trainer. It’s great to be conscious of what kinds of foods we’re putting into our bodies.

And I totally get you when you say you’re addicted to Starbucks. I usually get coffee five times a week but I’ve been trying to slowly wean off it by ordering smaller sizes. I want to start drinking black coffee but it’s so bitter that I’m having trouble getting used to drinking it.

Also very cool that you’re continuing to learn new things at work.

Sadly not :(. I found a neat deal at Creative Market and had to grab it! The credit is on my extras page :).

I can’t believe how different his body is from when he first started to his prime Wolverine days! I can see why Wolverine had to be killed off because staying ripped in the 40’s does look pretty hard @__@.

I always try to think I’m “okay” by buying smaller sized drinks but it’s just a difference of 50-90 cents D: D:

Logan made me wanna cry every time i remember it. not literally, of course. just figuratively (because it’s hard for me to cry when it comes to movies)

kudos for you hitting the gym! haha, i can’t help but to be reminded by our twitter conversation. back when i had gym membership, a personal trainer kept on bothering me so i picked a trainer. i bet them trainers kept on disturbing me so i’d took that “bonus” and they could get tips or something 😛
i’m so uncomfortable with personal trainers especially those who are so nosy, blah.

speaking of healthier eating, i’m thinking about that too. i mean, it’s not like i’m constantly munching on junk food or soda (i don’t even like soda!) but i’ve gained weight, beyond my limit (my limit is 50 kg max and i’m 51 kg now) and now i want to lose weight so badly (and fast.) a few years ago when i was so determined in losing more and more weight, i didn’t drink frappuccinos for like…a year or two either. i recently stopped buying starbucks because 1) it’s expensive, 2) it’s fattening and 3) i’ll just resort to tea instead of coffee since it’s bad for my anxiety and all. i haven’t had starbucks in a month or more but i still need to cut on the sugary thai iced tea :))

also, i’ve been thinking about decluttering my stuff, mainly my old collection of manga. i need to declutter them and remove them from my bookshelves, free some space as much as possible, y’know? i haven’t gotten around to doing it just because i’m lazy when it comes to cleaning up, haha.

anyways, good luck with your work too!

Time does seem to fly more when we are older. I feel like I can’t get enough time these days. I feel swamped. 🙁 Ooooh. Logan! I haven’t seen it, but it’s good they ended the series with Hugh Jackman portraying one last time.

It’s good you took the chance to try out personal training. MMA is a good thing to become more aware of 🙂 So is taking photos of what you eat! It’s a great idea that you and your boyfriend will continue that with each other to encourage healthier eating habits ^^

Starbucks and their fancy drinks are unhealthy and expensive when consuming on a daily basis! Cutting down on them benefits you the most. I, too, have discovered kombucha, and I am loving the one in this local restaurant in my neighbourhood. Do you have a particular favourite flavour?

Anti-money laundering — I don’t know anything about that! But it makes sense for the banks to ask you a series of questions to prevent that and whatever else. This is a new thing to put on your resume. Learning new skills for your career pays off!

I want to see a photo or your origami jar! Those kind of things are good to keep, but there are other things we can toss, especially if we’re no longer using them. It also helps you cut down on clutter and keeps you more organised 😀

Hard to believe that it’s been 17 years of Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine. It only seems like yesterday I was watching the first movie and so excited about it.

It’s good you were able to learn a lot through the personal trainer sessions. I can imagine it might be a little confronting at first, but it’s all for a positive reason. Wow, that is a huge lunge! :O

Great news that you have improved your meal and coffee habits. 😀 I am sure that would have so many benefits that your body (and wallet) will thank you for.

That would be an interesting project at work. I hope you learn a lot from it. 😀

Good luck with the spring cleaning. It can be really good to get rid of things that you no longer need!

I agree that time seems to go faster! I think it’s because there’s less milestones (like midterms or finals), so everything kind of meshes together. We saw Logan recently too and really enjoyed it. I was surprised by how dark and emotional it was!

That’s great that you had a personal trainer. I hear that having one helps a lot! Even if the sessions ended, it sounds like the things he taught you will last 🙂 That’s a good idea for you and your boyfriend to keep each other in check by sharing what you eat.

Nice job on eating healthier and cutting down your Starbucks habit! I’ve been trying to do the same recently by bringing my own lunch to work. For me, the addiction is with boba tea and soda, so I’ve cut soda, and I’m trying to get boba tea less frequently.

Oohh, anti-money laundering sounds interesting. That’s a security thing I haven’t thought much about, but I can see how that’s a problem for banks. Doing some spring cleaning also sounds nice! Sometimes it just feels good to declutter a little, even if you’re not going for the minimalist thing 🙂 I hope you have a good week too!

UGH. Logan was such a good movie – but it was definitely such a sad one. Thinking about it makes me want to rewatch it!

That’s great you were able to cut down on Starbucks. When I was in nursing school, I’d plow through at least 2 drinks A DAY!!! Boy was I super broke. Now I’ll have a venti refresher ever so often (usually 2 days out of the five that I head to work) which isn’t too bad like before. Mmmm kombucha is so good. Which one’s your favorite one? I forgot the brand, but I absolutely love the mango flavored ones!

I loved those refreshers! My favorite Kombucha brand is GT’S. I’ve tried other ones and it didn’t give me the same kick that GT’s did. I gotta try out the mango-flavored one some day! 🙂

I haven’t seen Logan yet but Hugh Jackman is so iconic as Wolverine that I’ll probably still see him as Wolverine in other movies 😂
Wow, 100lbs? Girl, you can lunge! Yay for eating healthier. 😊 I have given up soda but I’m still trying to get rid of fried food.
Oooh, good luck on your projects at work!
Aww, my best friend gave me an origami star jar and like you, I will never get rid of it 💖

  8. Chynna ☆ March 26, 2017 at 9:48 pm

I definitely am convinced that the older you get, the faster time flies! Logan was amazing, I actually cried in the cinema.

The personal trainer sounds really good! I’m glad your boyfriend is along with your fitness journey, as well. I’ve been trying to cut down on my coffee intake. I rarely buy Starbucks or anything, but I would consume a shit ton before because we get it for free at work. Plus I would put sugar, too. I’ve completely stopped putting sugar in my coffee now, and I just drink a cup a day in the morning and that will see me through the day. Hoping to cut it out completely!

I learnt about money laundering at work, too! I work in insurance, so it was mandatory – but it’s crazy the scenarios they came up with that people do!

I’m on annual leave now, so I’m taking this chance to do a Spring clean as well. My room is pretty tidy, but it’s cluttered and I need to throw out A LOT of stuff.

    Have a great week! x

  9. Teesh ☆ March 27, 2017 at 3:25 am

I had a personal trainer once, who made me work harder than the other people he trained. And it was mostly because I like to bargain, “do 50 push ups”, and I’ll counter with “how about 30?” lol. Your work seems interesting!!! Also, banks’ cyber security is so important. I once lost some money from my bank, good thing I signed up to get email notifications every time there’s activity on my account. I got it back but I have been more cautious with where I withdraw with my atm or check my banking details!

  10. Amy ☆ March 27, 2017 at 11:49 pm

I still need to go see Logan! I’ve been desperately trying to avoid spoilers, so it’s about time I went really. It looks so good!

It’s great that you’re trying to make healthier choices. It’s so difficult sometimes, especially when out with friends or work, but it’s worth it. Plus a couple of treats never hurt! I need to start cutting soda out of my day, but it’s difficult when there’s all these low calorie brands that I’m allowed on my diet.

I used to buy coffee most days at work. It’s not as expensive as Starbucks, but it was still adding up. I’m also trying not to do it as much, because I really want to start saving. Congrats on doing so well this month!

Yesssss! I am glad that the photo-sharing and exchanging helped keep your health in check. I think we probably discussed that people who take photos of food tend to eat less than people who don’t? 🙂 Or maybe I read that and forgot to mention it in our conversation.

I’ve been taking photos of my food more recently. Interesting, because I seem to have more puppy fat than I did before, and it was quite a few years ago that I took photos of ALL my food. 😆

You can lunge almost my entire body weight, Nancy! I haven’t tried lunging any weight, and you have made me think I should try a little harder. I tend to do the same exercises that I am comfortable with and just up the weight. The exercises I enjoy are actually not the usual that people do (so no deadlifts, I don’t do a ~lot~ of squats…). Personal training can be very expensive and I think that if I did have a personal trainer I might be pushed a bit more than I am now, but I like pushing myself at my own pace. When I notice myself plateauing, I usually try to give myself another push.

I used to have Starbucks a lot, to the point where I was having a frappuccino several times a week. It was huge! These days I only go once or twice a week, and I usually have a green tea latte with no sugar 🙂 🙂 Sometimes I really just want something with milk, LOL… and the tea I have at work is simply not enough. 😭 I should really get soy milk from our kitchen at work and just make my own chai. 😆

I used to have a little jar of stars and a whole bunch of origami. Eventually, for me it became clutter rather than decoration, so I discarded them. :c
